Cryptrio Review (Nintendo Switch OLED)

Cryptrio Review, Enter the crypt and defeat as many monsters as you can before they overwhelm you! Match three of the same type of monster to defeat them. Their weird and wobbly shapes mean you’ll have to think hard about where to connect each piece lest you find yourself backed into a corner…

Cryptrio Review Pros:

  • Decent pixel art graphics.
  • 37.8MB download size.
  • Match 3 puzzle gameplay.
  • How to play option.
  • The name entry uses three initials to keep it old school.
  • Local leaderboard.
  • The gimmick is each creature has its own unique shape and you cannot rotate or flip the pieces, you drop them and place them that’s it.
  • Boss pieces will drop and to damage and kill them you match pieces on top or next to them.
  • Really clever boss mechanic.
  • As you play you level up which brings the boss drop forward and speeds the game up.
  • Screen effects – can be turned on and off.
  • Good soundtrack.
  • Simple controls – can use the pad or stick for movement.
  • Very addictive.
  • Cool border art.
  • You can hard-drop pieces.
  • Pieces will drop after a clear is made.
  • You can cause cascades.
  • The scores pop up as you get them.
  • The highest Hi score is always shown on the screen.
  • Instant loading times.

Cryptrio Review Cons:

  • You cannot see what piece is coming up next.
  • No online leaderboards.
  • The stick is super sensitive and not great for use.
  • Initial learning curve because you cannot rotate the pieces it takes a lot to re-learn the genre.
  • Can only have one nickname saved at a time.
  • Only the one-game mode.
  • No way to customize or change the border art.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
