From Console Chaos to Couch Co-op: Darksiders Genesis PS4 Breakdown

For our Darksiders Genesis Review PS4, we take our first look and play in the world of DARKSIDERS before the events of the original game. Furthermore, it introduces the fourth and last horseman STRIFE, as well as Co-op gameplay for the first time in the history of the franchise.
Darksiders Genesis Review PS4 Pros:
- Decent graphics.
- 9.941 GB download size.
- Platinum trophy.
- Works on Playstation 5.
- Quests in game act a bit like achievements as you get rewards for doing certain quests.
- Action RPG Gameplay.
- 3 save slots.
- Graphics-Display mode, resolution, v-sync, AA, texture quality, post-processing, shadow, and FX quality.
- You can change the font size.
- Rebind the keyboard and controller.
- Isometric view with a full 3D game world.
- On-screen guide/tutorial pop-ups.
- Big boss encounters.
- Open world style with the chapters splitting parts of the world.
- Chests-random and predetermined loot.
- Hotswap between characters in solo.
- Save and quit option.
- Excellent voice work/story/humor.
- Two playable characters – Strife and War. Basically boils down to one is good at range and one is good at melee.
- One gimmick the game uses is ammo, each character can collect different ammo types and you have a radial menu to select them quickly. It adds a rock paper scissors like approach to Gunfire.
- Four difficulties-Casual/normal/hard/mayhem.
- Vulgrim-shop to buy items/upgrades/cores.
- Full your wrath bar and unleash your special ability.
- Trickster keys-buy/find and open bonus rooms.
- Creature cores-buy/find and equip them to customize your character with new abilities, get duplicates to empower them further.
- Co-op support with settings-Friends/invite/private option.
- Local co-op support and it allows drop in and out.
- Many Breakable objects that can have rewards like health.
- Constant pop up progress bars for collectibles.
- The collection menu houses all found and encountered enemies and items.
- Summon stone-hit this in-game to invite players or initiate split-screen Co-op.
- The game allows you to fight and move around on horseback or on foot. On horseback it plays like a twin stick shooter and on foot it’s more of a melee combo based system.
- Glorious looking backdrops and locations.
- Cartoon style cutscenes and character interactions. You can usually skip through interactions and skip cutscenes.
- Excellent voice work.
- Slight puzzle elements scattered about the world.
- Optional but you can have the controls showing in the corner at all times and you do get button prompts.
- Many collectibles to get and each map location shows a running tally of what you do and don’t have.
- Fantastic soundtrack.
- Swap characters when you want with a simple button combo press, each character plays differently and have unique abilities.
- Locations are huge and you are free to roam as you please, many secrets and routes to find.
- Find maps to have them complete with points of interest put on it.
- Many elemental factors like gusts of wind for verticality.
- You are free to play how you want, you don’t have to follow the story path and can just explore.
- Cool looking execution moves for bonus drops like health and rage.
- The combat is fast and satisfying especially after you start getting new abilities and learn the synergy between the two characters.
- Many loot chests to find.
- The game does like to do the whole get put in an arena and fight waves of enemies to unlock the gate, it’s fine to play bit is a tad repetitive.
- Collect three fragments of the Wrath stone shards to extend your wrath bar.
- There will be platform heavy sequences.

Darksiders Genesis Review PS4 Cons:
- The slowdown in places.
- Annoying have to pick up some drops and not others.
- Can’t adjust view distances.
- Bad at introducing you to the game.
- No camera control and it makes built up areas annoying to travel and fight in.
- Cannot manually save when you want.
- You cannot break boxes, crates, and boxes with dash which is criminal.
- Try and remember you have to manually go in and claim completed quest rewards.
- No camera zoom in and out so at times it can be hard to keep tabs on your position.
- If you don’t have a Playstation Plus subscription then you have to select the offline mode otherwise you will get prompted to buy a subscription and cannot go
- When on horseback you can’t always pick up collectibles and coins.
