Dig Or Die Review (PlayStation 5)

Dig Or Die Review, Crash land on a hostile planet where you’ll have to build the strongest defenses if you wish to live to escape from it. But be warned… this planet is merciless. Build strong, and smart; else physics may flood or destroy your only hopes of survival.

Dig Or Die Review Pros:

  • Decent graphics.
  • 374.3MB download size.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • You get the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 versions of the game.
  • Game settings – screenshake, and save frequency.
  • The help menu acts like a game manual with hints, tips, and controls.
  • Five difficulties – peaceful, easy, normal, hard, and brutal.
  • Advanced modifiers – hazardous environment and creative mode options.
  • Character creator – gender, skin tone, hairstyle, hair color, and eye color. Or you can just press randomize.
  • Survival builder gameplay.
  • Has strong Terraria and Starbound vibes.
  • You start with a gun and tool to vacuum up materials and resources.
  • Hot bar to quickly swap between items and gear.
  • Day and night cycle with rainy weather.
  • Three camera views to cycle through.
  • Crafting is done via a machine that you upgrade to unlock higher-tier gear and items.
  • You have a constant light source around you to help with spelunking and nighttime adventuring.
  • Follows the traditional path of upgrades, going from wood to stone to iron, etc.
  • 2D perspective.
  • Enemies have health bars that pop up when you shoot at them.
  • Has a more action-shooter survival approach than others in the genre.
  • World selection browser for your creations.
  • Build massive bases and add turrets for defense.

Dig Or Die Review Cons:

  • Autosave keeps creating new save slots.
  • No actual tutorial in any way.
  • Cannot remap controls and the default is weird with up being jump just an example.
  • Way too many enemies that you are constantly having to stop what you are doing to fight.
  • When it rains it fills up any holes or rooms you may have and it’s a nightmare to get the water out.
  • The camera change is on the right stick and it’s so easy to hit when fighting.
  • You can only aim your guns you cannot change the cursor to do more precise farming or mining.
  • Doesn’t have multiplayer.
  • The music is not great and just keeps looping.
  • Menus can be confusing and text pop-ups obscure things making it hard to see what you need to get.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
