Dougs Nightmare Review, What is a banana to do when he’s haunted by anxiety and inner demons? Doug’s Nightmare is a cartoony, hand-drawn bullet hell where your job is to help Doug the banana overcome his worst fears by pounding them into oblivion! Part top-down twin-stick shooter and part beat ’em up, Doug’s Nightmare pits you against swarms of bugs, mushrooms, floating brains, and more!

  • Controls option – auto attack on/off.
  • Twin stick shooter-style gameplay.
  • Comic book-style cutscenes.
  • Anxiety plays a huge part, as enemies surround you your anxiety bar drains, and slows your attacks. Once the bar empties the anxiety form shows up and you have to defeat them.
  • Opening tutorial.
  • Food can be picked up which heals you.
  • Teddy bears can be found and collected to replenish your anxiety.
  • The game is played across houses and dungeons, and each room is an arena and you have to clear a room in order to move into another room.
  • You get to choose the route you take.
  • Fast-paced combat.
  • Gifts can be opened up for weapons and clothing drops like hats, tops glasses, shoes, and costumes. You can equip them from the gift menu.
  • 2D perspective.
  • You can equip two weapons at once and swap between them with a button press.
  • Interactive elements in locations.
  • The map fills in as you explore.
  • You can find and fight hidden enemies in areas that are clear.
  • Big boss battles.
  • Dying has you respawn at the last checkpoint.

Dougs Nightmare Review Cons:

  • Slow-paced shooter.
  • The enemies move so fast all the time that you cannot help but take damage.
  • Boss battles are very one-note and just a huge bullet sponge.
  • Pickups like Health and Bears disappear despawn too quickly.
  • You cannot remap controls.
  • Little replay value.
