Dreamscaper Review Pros:

  • Beautiful vibrant graphics.
  • 4.47GB Download size.
  • Steam achievements.
  • Controller support.
  • Colorblind support.
  • Graphics – fullscreen, resolution, v-sync, graphics quality (low/medium/high/epic) and auto detect graphics settings.
  • Controller icons – PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo
  • Can rebind controls for both keyboard and the controller.
  • 3 save slots.
  • Action-adventure gameplay.
  • Roguelike game.
  • In-game cutscenes.
  • Such a beautiful-looking game with stunning views and vistas to explore.
  • Powerful soundtrack.
  • An optional tutorial is presented as a game within the game.
  • Actions – hack and slash combat, dodge, block and parry with shield, lucid abilities (magic basically), ranged weapons, and bombs/items.
  • Time attacks to do a perfect more powerful attack.
  • The game has a map like a grid-based dungeon, at any point you can bring up the map and fast travel to previous rooms.
  • The game takes place in your dreams/Nightmares.
  • Revisit and discover memories.
  • Loot will drop and compare items for you.
  • Break down unwanted gear and items for currency.
  • Ideas – works like recipes, find ideas so when you next awake you can create said idea.
  • Play how you want.
  • Waking world – everything is done here is permanent.
  • You can unlock new places in the waking world from the dreamscape.
  • Locations in the waking world have a set them like meditate or action etc so that gives you an idea on the modifiers/embellishments you can buy and use.
  • Glass – found and used to buy embellishments for the dreamscape.
  • Sleep will start a new dreamscape run.
  • Breakable objects and some take a bomb.
  • When entering a new room you may have to kill all enemies in order to open up the exits.
  • The mini-map will show anything you left in that room like breakables or locks.
  • Big boss encounters.
  • The color of the door goes some way to say what’s in there so red is the boss door for example.
  • Camera – you can zoom in and out.
  • End of run breakdown.
  • You always start with random inventory items but you can craft and create load-outs.
  • Different items are needed from the dreamscape to use in the waking world locations for embellishments and modifiers.
  • Lucid mode is an easy mode of sorts as every time you die, you get more health and damage on your next run. It’s optional.
  • Once you defeat a boss you can skip it.
  • Beat a boss to unlock a new area in the dreamscape.
  • You can pause the game.
  • In-game shop to buy new gear and items.

Dreamscaper Cons:

  • The tutorial is sporadic and kinda unhelpful.
  • The camera is the biggest problem as it either doesn’t go in far enough or it goes out too far.
  • Hard to see item drops as they are bright balls of light in a game with a lot of particle effects.
  • Slow pace to the unlocks.
  • A lot of currency and materials are needed for unlocks, especially in the waking world.
  • Health potions are not that common.
  • You have to take so much in.
  • Areas and layouts repeat themselves a lot.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
