Eyes Of War Preview Pros:
- Decent graphics.
- 5.08GB download size.
- Steam achievements.
- Graphics settings – graphics quality preset, max fps limit, v-sync, resolution, window mode, anti-aliasing, upscaling method, upscaling quality, shadows, reflections, ambient occlusion, and global illumination.
- Can remap the controls for the keyboard.
- Mouse sensitivity for character and strategy mode.
- Optional tutorial option.
- Can play the game offline or online in multiplayer.
- DLSS support.
- Full 3D game world with 360-degree camera control.
- Strategy mode goes into an overhead view and here you can build structures, train soldiers, repair buildings, etc.
- Hack and slash-style combat with an emphasis on blocking and countering.
- You can train soldiers, queue them up, and place a banner where they spawn.
- Scrolling the map in strategy mode can be done with WASD keys or by hitting the edges of the screen with your mouse cursor.
- Drag and select mechanics for troops.
- On the main menu, you can change the location of the scene shown.
- All of the camera control is done with the keyboard.
- The map fills in as you explore.
- You can become any character that you have in the game.
- It’s cool where you go into a massive battle and call out attack and then it all just goes Lord Of The Rings.
- Building walls is fast and you press once to place and then drag the cursor around until you’re happy and then click the build button again.
- When a wall is built you can still add to it like towers or lookout and archer spots.
- You watch things get built.
- Building structures like mines and camps can have the people working them upgraded, the structures themselves upgraded and you can set priorities with a handy slider for different resources.
- Every structure or person can be upgraded in some way.
- As you build up your kingdom gold comes in passively.
- Play how you want.
- Structures can be rotated and placed using the green for good and red for not a chance placing guide.
- Technology is attached to buildings and structures and these can be used to do things like increase soldiers health.
- Training soldiers and troops can be queued up and stacked.
- Impressive body count on screen making for truly epic fights.
- What I do like is when selecting and moving a group of troops you can easily press a button to change their formation.
- You can play the game using both views or by just doing strategy.
- Multiplayer has a server browser.
- Four game modes – strategy (construct buildings and an army), Arena (select your army and fight), battle (place your army in pre-made battle scenarios), and the coming soon mode survive.
- Four armies to choose from – Veridia, Silveria, Norvion, and Solvong.
- The battle has three locations – Sands OF Destiny, tears of River, and Glacier of Glory. You select which troops and how many to take into battle.
- Arena has three locations – Lions Roar, Hopmgang, and Green Garden.
- Strategy supports up to four players (both Ai and/or bots), the bots have four difficulties, and there are six maps to choose from – Serpents Pass, frozen harbor, barren dunes, two rivers, rapids, and flat river.
- Every mode can be played with bots or against real players.
- Shows a lot of promise and is fantastic when it is running well.
Eyes Of War Preview Cons:
- No controller support but the dev does say it’s in the works.
- Very small text even when on a laptop close up it’s hard to make out tutorials and pop-ups.
- In the tutorial, I put barracks too close together and the troops couldn’t move, I couldn’t demolish the barracks and with all that, the tutorial would not progress.
- The game’s tutorial is very basic and doesn’t go into much detail or give tips on controls.
- Third-person fighting is sensitive and very unwieldy, with a lot of flailing attacks and lucky blocks. (could do with a lock on for fighting).
- It all moves rather slowly from general movement to building troops and moving them around.
- A lot of looking and waiting for progress bars.
- The music is up and down.
- You don’t always get a good indicator that something is built.
- The performance overall is very choppy especially when jumping between strategy mode and fighting.
- Combat movement is lightning-fast compared to the quicksand troop movement.
- The AI is not great on both sides, the enemy will just stand there and take it whilst your men will usually always go the wrong way.
- Has strategy games start and stay as a black screen meaning I have to quit out.
- Hardly anyone playing online.
- When playing against bots in the battle mode you still have a battle start countdown.
- It just always feels like the game is going to fall over at any point as I’ve had it not work properly in so many situations.
- I couldn’t find any way to group troops up into smaller armies and then have them assigned to hotkeys.
