Find the cure. Save the world. Quarantine is an intense turn-based strategy game about waging war on pandemic disease. Recruit a team of specialized operatives to deploy on worldwide missions.
Pros:
- Nice artwork style graphics. Acts more like a visual moving novel.
- Steam achievements.
- Graphic options-Resolution, Mode, Graphic profile, Texture filtering, Shadows, Lighting, Colour grading, Resolution scaling and chromatic aberration.
- Optional tutorial section.
- Three scenarios to choose from- Bacteria, Virus and Prion. Each has a win/loss condition.
- Three difficulties- Easy, Medium and hard.
- The story is that basically you need to hire a team, Research the disease and find a way to stop it before it wipes out the world.
- Turn based strategy game.
- Tech tree- You can pick a upgrade once earned to research. Which ever one you pick has a counter in game days. Upgrade examples are more health or get more samples from research. Any upgrades you do are good for that game.
- Every turn is a day in game and all actions are measured in days. Once you take your turn, You then watch the disease act out and move out across the world.
- You earn money from your actions and from any HQ you have built.
- Buy different operatives from the team menu. Each operative has unique abilities and you can recruit upto 3 for your team.
- Quick save/load buttons.
- Controls are all done via the mouse.
- Game randomizes every time.
- Each game you start off by picking a leader and a starting HQ location.
- Feels and looks a lot like a spin on the popular board game Pandemic. From the general game play plot to the way the game unfolds.
- On your go you can click on any city and choose from a selection of actions like heal operative, Quarantine the city or collect samples for research. You may not always be successful in your actions as dictated by the risk factor on the action description.
- You can zoom in/out and around the world map.
- Easy to use and read UI.
- The game is very well put together and will punish you if you try and rush it or not respect the disease.
- Even if all members die its not game over, Only when the whole world is infected.
- Cut scenes will pop up as you play with updates on progress or triggered events.
- Scenarios can take a few hours depending on skill/luck.
Cons:
- If resolution or scaling doesn’t match your TV/Monitor settings then it will mess up and go all zoomed in.
- Quite a lot to take in.
- Difficult game play.
- You feel like the tutorial didn’t fully prepare you or explain in more detail whats what.
- The game is good but you feel in some ways that Pandemic did situations better.
- Needs more scenarios.
