Hello Engineer: Scrap Machines Constructor Review Pros:

  • Nice cartoon-like graphics.
  • Download size.
  • Steam achievements.
  • Full controller support.
  • 3 save slots.
  • Graphics settings – resolution, v-sync, window mode, graphics preset.
  • Can Invert axis and sensitivity sliders for both the controller and the mouse.
  • Rebind keys for both the keyboard and the controller.
  • Three game modes – story, sandbox, and creators.
  • Car creation gameplay.
  • Steam Workshop support.
  • Multiplayer lets you create a room and then you invite people in via your Steam list.
  • Photo mode.
  • Animated cutscenes with a mix of in-game sequences.
  • Optional tutorial videos to watch at a level.
  • It’s a game where you build Contraptions and then either race or try to finish the course.
  • Has the feel of a soapbox derby meet that Redbull event they do.
  • Story mode is like a puzzle game in that you build a competent vehicle to get across what is essentially an obstacle course.
  • At any time you can break or Store a part to use later or not.
  • You can suspend the vehicle up high to make working on it easier, parts and pieces can go transparent and snap together when they can connect.
  • Button icons show for each action to make learning it easier.
  • When actually driving it’s not just floor it and go, you have to feather the throttle or balance the car out across planks.
  • Surprisingly easy to get into.
  • Great locations and scenarios.
  • At times it felt like I was in a well-funded version of the Scrapheap challenge TV show.

Hello Engineer: Scrap Machines Constructor Review Cons:

  • Not many graphics options.
  • Can only change the graphics preset/quality on the main menu.
  • You have to click profiles to create a new game or set it to online/offline. This isn’t clear at all.
  • The driving is really loose and awkward.
  • The camera seems to go a bit crazy a lot of the time.
  • It’s not always easy to line up pieces properly

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
