  • Steam achievements.
  • Fishing gameplay.
  • 2D perspective.
  • It can be played with just a mouse.
  • Every location has its own set of fish which are grouped together by tiers.
  • Caught fish give you rank points amd a star rating.
  • Rank points are used for buying new rods, and parts which all increase or decrease stats.
  • Day and night locations.
  • Many characters to unlock and each has unique stats.
  • Your unlocked fishing rod always transfers to the character you are playing.
  • A merchant can randomly appear.
  • Potions and food can be bought and used to give time buffs.
  • When a fish is hooked you need to press the pull button but feather it as you have to balance it against the fish’s strength bar, too high, and the line snaps and too low and the fish gets away.
  • Caught fish show in the lake amd uncaught or undiscovered fish just show as a dark shadow until caught.
  • You can call it a day at any time and go to another location.
  • Find treasure chests and messages in a bottle on the sea floor.
  • Items like rings and capes can be found and equipped and they offer buffs or stat increases.
  • A very addictive game and a great little time waster.
  • Nice soundtrack.
  • A fishing tournament can happen and is optional, if you take part then you earn points for fish you catch and you have five minutes to get as many as you can.
  • Upgrading your rod is not just for making the reeling in easier it’s also so you can cast further.

Last Dream Fishing Arcade Review Cons:

  • Says controller support but no matter what I tried, I could not get it to work.
  • The game locks up a lot, I have it happen when dismissing fishing tournaments, usually when catching my biggest fish.
  • You can rebuy already owned rods and upgrades which is frustrating.
  • The fishing tournament is just a time-based catch a thin and it’s the same thing every time.
  • It takes ages to unlock new characters and locations.
  • The layout and controls are very awkward, to cast you press the cast button then go across the screen to hit the button to set and actually cast the line.

Summary

Last Dream Fishing Arcade offers a charming experience with its decent pixel art graphics and a manageable download size of 150.06MB. The game features a variety of locations, each with its own set of fish grouped by tiers, and a day and night cycle that adds to the immersive fishing gameplay. Players can enjoy the game using just a mouse, making it accessible and straightforward. The 2D perspective and the ability to unlock numerous characters, each with unique stats, add depth to the gameplay. Additionally, the game includes Steam achievements, which provide extra motivation for players.

The fishing mechanics are engaging, requiring players to balance the pull button against the fish’s strength bar to avoid snapping the line or losing the fish. Caught fish are displayed in the lake, while uncaught fish appear in dark shadows until they are caught. Rank points earned from catching fish can be used to buy new rods and parts, enhancing the player’s fishing capabilities. The game also features a merchant who appears randomly, offering potions and food for temporary buffs. Treasure chests and messages in a bottle can be found on the sea floor, containing items like rings and capes that provide buffs or stat increases.

However, the game has its drawbacks. Despite claiming controller support, many players, including myself, have struggled to get it to work. The game frequently locks up, especially when dismissing fishing tournaments or catching large fish, which can be frustrating. The ability to rebuy already owned rods and upgrades is another annoyance. The fishing tournament, while optional, is repetitive and lacks variety, as it is always a time-based challenge to catch as many fish as possible within five minutes. Unlocking new characters and locations takes a considerable amount of time, and the layout and controls can be awkward, requiring players to navigate across the screen to cast their line.

In summary, Last Dream Fishing Arcade is a highly addictive and enjoyable game with a nice soundtrack and a variety of engaging features. However, it is marred by technical issues, repetitive elements, and awkward controls. Despite these flaws, it remains a great little time-waster for those who enjoy fishing games.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
