A Look At: Escape From The Ailens In Outer Space Ultimate Edition

So I wanted a game that I could carry around with me for a quick session on the bus, Train or even in bed for a lete night thing. I had just received my latest copy of Table Top Gaming magazine and low and behold there was this game! Now I had a quick look and it ticked all the boxes so I went straight to Chaos Cards and got it ordered. It turned up next day and the here is what I received. I will be doing a hands on/review of how it all went but for now its just kind of like an un-boxing post like I did with the Ghostbusters game.

The Box:

The box was the first surprise. It had a hinged box! The design was minimal but powerful, I like the way the Alien didn’t always show and the honeycomb feel to the sides of the box really made it feel expensive and fancy.

The Cards:

The cards are laminated and have some really good artwork on them. I like the way that you can easily identify each type of card not just by colour but also by the icon or indeed the art. The cards are a lot lighter than I am used too but they do the job just fine.

The game pads or maps if you prefer, Are on wipe clean books. Eight books in total, Each map is well designed and worth noting each cell has enough room for you to not only mark it but also mark it several times how ever you please. The top part of the map has your moves tracker but also shows a brief description of each card icon/type so the manual doesn’t need to be out all game. Coming with eight markers and a few wipes.

Final thoughts:

This is a brilliant set and don’t be under any illusion, Boxed it is quite heavy! The cards are nice but being that they are all black on the edges, When shuffling they can get little nips or rips which show jagged white parts of the under layer. Obviously this wont affect everyone and it hasn’t happened to me but you can see it happening. The wipe clean game boards are excellent and a high build quality. It still suffers from your typical white board shenanigans like leaving a bit of a smear that requires a wet wipe or water to clean thoroughly. A minor minor gripe and in fact its nothing. The markers are decent, The wipes are as you would expect. Now the box, The box like I said looks awesome but the way the hinge is does mean you can shut it wrong if your not careful. Books have their own compartment as do the markers. The cards have a space but its an open sided compartment meaning cards can fall out if not opened correctly. Oh and the manual is just paper and it can easily be folded or ripped but to be honest you will read it once then never need it again.

I cannot say anything listed is a deal breaker. The quality is never in doubt, The art work is awesome and the box art is sublime. I will as stated write up a hands on at a later date as I got a mis printed book by mistake but thanks to their friendly and helpful CS team, A replacement is already on its way! Once I have it a few 8 player games will be had then I will be content in writing something up. All I can say at this point is its an excellent set.
