Summary
Not gonna lie, the first hour was pretty rough, it took me ages to get to grips with combat especially as it is a lot more wooden and stationery than I thought it would be and this messed up timing and attacks. The story did take a long time to get going mostly because it’s very broken up and requires you to find particular people to trigger etc. Anyway moving on I found the game just needed to time to settle, I felt a lot more confident in all situations once I embraced the loot (there is a lot of it) and mixed it up with magic. Honestly, the game is a proper loot-filled crazy ride of combat and exploration, I went from not sure to a devoted fan, and it is a game that is a perfect fit for the Nintendo Switch, the boss encounters are interesting with a more structured approach to them, the combat once mastered is very meaty and the visuals just pop right out of the screen. If you want a solid well thought out Metroidvania, Lost Ruins is one you must check out, push past the initial trials and tribulations and reap the rewards with a solid fun-to-play loot-crazy game.
