Master Blaster Review Pros:

  • Decent neon graphics.
  • 1.58GB download size.
  • Steam achievements.
  • Graphics settings – v-sync.
  • Can remap the controls.
  • Full controller support.
  • Aim sensitivity sliders and a dead zone slider.
  • Two game modes – campaign, and survival.
  • Galaxy map level select where you click a galaxy and then a star within it.
  • Arcade air hockey shooter gameplay.
  • Tutorial pop-ups as you play.
  • When playing the campaign you earn a choice of rewards after each level.
  • The gameplay is very much you defending yourself by shooting enemy discs with your discs on what is basically a air hockey table.
  • You can charge your shots to earn energy.
  • End of level breakdown.
  • You see the aiming line to help with shooting and bouncing shots off the walls.
  • Can be played with a mouse and keyboard.
  • You can replay levels.
  • The maps will have multiple routes and show the reward choices you get upon completion.
  • Easy to learn gameplay.
  • Energy is needed in order to shoot so killing enemy projectiles and using powered shots earns you energy.
  • The game really shines once you start getting multiple enemy discs at once, new obstacles spawn on the table and the speed generally goes right up, and the gameplay benefits from that.
  • Resilience is your health and you lose it by letting enemy discs in and get resilience back by hitting enemies with bounce shots.
  • Big boss encounters.

Master Blaster Review Cons:

  • Bare minimum graphics settings.
  • Local-only leaderboards.
  • The mouse cursor stays on the screen even when using the controller, the cursor always resets to the center of the screen.
  • The performance can be a bit up and down.
  • Every level has a three-second countdown and it’s just not needed.
  • No voice work.
  • The game takes a bit of time to get going.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
