Model Builder Review Cons:

  • Graphic setting changes can have the game freeze for a short time.
  • No controller support.
  • Decal placement is a nightmare to line up properly.
  • Performance hits happen a lot when painting.
  • Career mode is very slow-paced with its gameplay and progress/unlocks.
  • Just annihilates your time.
  • Had it not always recognized my painting.
  • No brands or official models that I have heard of anyway.
  • Cannot zoom right in on the manual pages.
  • No way to bring up the controls.
  • Could do with a quick return to default position button or indeed a way to tell you about it.

Summary

Building models is an expensive and time-consuming endeavor. Model Builder aims to fix one of those problems, you will have so many kits to build models that money is no object, the thing is time. Time will still be your biggest and only enemy for Model Builder absolutely demolishes your time. I love this game as it allows you to build simple little kits like jeeps and miniatures to more advanced builds like the Titanic or even a goddam Gundam! The whole game plays out with a simple drag n drop clip-together system. A red or green outline helps with accurate placement and this does go a long way to helping you. Painting has nice little touches like clicking the color the model needs and it adds it to your brush, you can airbrush or dry brush your models and even add decals. It’s a game that like your crosswords or jigsaws just creates a zen atmosphere and one that is just sublime to play. You have full control over the kits and you can move them however you want. Model Builder does have a pacing issue however with career mode being very slow in terms of unlocks and new environments, it’s kind of to be expected but it is a pain. I personally wish it had more control options or even a controls cheat sheet to help but alas it does not have any and it makes simple tasks quite tedious. Overall Model Builder is a game you play to chill out, a game to get a podcast on for, and overall it’s a good approach to a new genre of building.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
