Mokoko X Review (Steam)

Welcome to our Mokoko X Review where we play a game that was inspired by the arcade games like Volfied, Qix, and Gals Panic. A popular gaming style in the late 1980s, Mokoko X looks to resurrect the soul of the arcade genre while adding a modern touch.

Mokoko X Review Pros:

  • Decent graphics.
  • 734.64MB Download size.
  • Steam achievements.
  • Full controller support.
  • Graphics settings – full screen, resolution, effects slider, screen shake, safe traverse, and panel effects.
  • English and Japanese Dub choice.
  • Two game modes – story and arcade.
  • 8 characters – one initially then you unlock more.
  • 3 difficulties – Easy, medium, and hard.
  • Fast loading times.
  • Puzzle gameplay.
  • The goal of the game is to move around avoid obstacles and cut away the level to gain coverage. Reach the coverage goal to win.
  • Simple concept.
  • Easy to learn.
  • Tutorial pop-ups.
  • Online leaderboards.
  • As you take away the board you reveal an animated image.
  • End of level breakdown.
  • Each character is unlocked by finishing a set of levels and a final showdown. After each level is clear a fuzzy picture becomes clearer.
  • The story is told via text before a level in story mode.
  • Cut off a section with mystery boxes to get a random power up.

Mokoko X Review Cons:

  • Shows mouse and keyboard control even when using the controller.
  • The online leaderboards text is so small.
  • Bare minimum graphics settings.
  • Never sure where you are in the menus.
  • Very short levels.
  • Story segments are forgettable.
  • The tutorial is way too basic.
  • Each hit is a life and sometimes it feels unfair or not clear.
  • No way to change the view as it is quite far out.
  • Going from one level to the next is slow.
  • You have to unlock arcade mode.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
