  • Handy green and red outline to tell you if the item can or cannot be placed.
  • A lot of humor throughout.
  • Loads of shortcuts for features like overhead camera pause the game, and game speed options.
  • The campaign has a lot of hand-holding and tutorial-style quests.
  • The tavern is where you make your money and here you can pay maintenance costs, and add new services by placing structures and items.

  • All combat is done in real-time and as an auto battler.
  • The recruitment menu is always changing and here it shows all available minions, their CVs, and special traits or requests they have.
  • The game will play itself so money is always coming in and actions are being taken care of as long as you are on top of everything.
  • Excellent soundtrack.
  • You get different races of minions and they don’t always play well together so you have to be mindful of what and where you build.
  • Some minions need particular facilities.
  • Play how you want.
  • It’s a game where you have to be constantly managing people from hiring leaders to new rooms and facilities, to then manning this new facility, maintaining the castle, protecting the castle, and so on.
  • The game is very very deep and allows you to do so much like being creative with placement to how you build your team around you.
  • I like the constant drip feed of missions and pop-ups as it does help you not only learn but also stay on track.
  • It is very rewarding once you get the flow down.

Naheulbeuks Dungeon Master Review Cons:

  • Cannot remap the controls.
  • The button icons don’t always line up or have a delay.
  • A lot to take in for the first few hours.
  • Slow pace to it all and the first hour in particular takes a while to get going.
  • It’s very fiddly and awkward to learn what the buttons are and if you need to do something quick it can get quite stressful.
  • A lot of menu surfing.
  • Menus don’t always have a guide of what or where to go so you can get stuck in a menu.

Summary

Naheulbeuk’s Dungeon Master offers a visually appealing experience with decent graphics and a manageable download size of 3.89GB. The game features two modes: Campaign and Sandbox, providing flexibility in gameplay. The 3D game world with 360-degree camera control enhances the immersive experience, while animated character portraits add a lively touch. Players can customize their experience with options like inverting the axis and adjusting sensitivity sliders, as well as setting the autosave frequency. The game includes a platinum trophy for dedicated players.

The gameplay involves managing minions with distinct origins, professions, ranks, and salaries. Each minion earns experience points (EXP) and levels up, making tasks easier over time. Building structures is intuitive, with a grid system and helpful green and red outlines indicating where items can be placed. The game is filled with humor and offers numerous shortcuts for features like overhead camera pause and game speed options. However, the campaign mode includes a lot of hand-holding and tutorial-style quests, which might not appeal to all players.

The tavern is a central hub where players can earn money, pay maintenance costs, and add new services by placing structures and items. Each building has its own room state and rating, indicating what needs to be done, such as cleaning. In-game cutscenes introduce new adventurers, adding to the narrative. Players can save and load the game at any time, providing flexibility. Hiring minions and soldiers to perform tasks and fight is a key aspect, but workers can go on strike, listing their demands, though they can be fired if necessary. Morale is crucial in all aspects of the game, and incursions by enemy soldiers add a layer of challenge.

Combat is conducted in real-time and functions as an auto battler. The recruitment menu is dynamic, showing available minions, their CVs, and special traits or requests. The game can run autonomously, generating income and managing actions as long as players stay on top of everything. The soundtrack is excellent, enhancing the overall experience. Different races of minions require careful management, as they don’t always get along, and some need specific facilities. However, the inability to remap controls and the occasional misalignment or delay of button icons can be frustrating.

The game has a steep learning curve, with a lot to take in during the first few hours. The slow pace, especially in the first hour, can be off-putting, and the fiddly controls can make quick actions stressful. Menu navigation can be cumbersome, with some menus lacking clear guidance. Despite these challenges, the game allows for creative play and constant management of various aspects, from hiring leaders to maintaining and protecting the castle. The depth of the game is impressive, offering a rewarding experience once players get the hang of it. The constant drip feed of missions and pop-ups helps keep players on track and engaged.

In summary, Naheulbeuk’s Dungeon Master is a deep and rewarding game with a lot of humor and flexibility in gameplay. While it has a steep learning curve and some control issues, the immersive 3D world, dynamic minion management, and excellent soundtrack make it a worthwhile experience for those who enjoy detailed management games and want a violent parody of all previous games in the genre, Its a riot once it gets going.
