NBA 2K26 Review Cons
- Having to tediously type in your email address twice to just login is not cool.
- Initial character creator is just team, position, and an avatar.
- You cannot skip the opening cutscenes and setup.
- The voice acting is a bit flat and kind of cheesy in it’s delivery.
- The game guide is off the game, and you scan a QR code and use it on your phone.
- Myteam team’s name can only be 14 characters long.
- Cannot skip the cutscenes.
- No way to remap or tweak the controls.
- So much to take in, but this is more to completely new player, but even then, veterans have a lot of explanations to sit through.
- If you are new or not in the know of Basketball, then it’s very daunting, and the opening is cold with you not knowing what to actually do first.
- Mycareer is just a busy mess of people all standing around looking the same. You get bombarded with icons and pop-ups with no clue what the hell is going on.
- Movement in the Mycareer world is slow and not that fun.
- The players, especially the created ones, all have dead-looking eyes.
- Icons on the Mycareer map don’t click or use hover text.
- As soon as you touch a court for multiplayer in Mycareer, you get the Buy PlayStation Plus now message before it even tells you why or where you are.
- The world in Mycareer feels lifeless and flat.
- Menus and options are not clear.
- They should have an opening tutorial game like Madden and Fifa to help new players.
- The movement isn’t as smooth and fluid as I would have anticipated.
- The actual on-court gameplay takes some getting used to if you are new to the series.
- The actual performance of the game is not always smooth.
- A few dubious hit detection issues.
- I was kind of expecting a proper featured story mode, but instead, it is just a load of small set pieces and scenarios.

NBA 2K26 Review
Summary
NBA 2K26 – The Thrills and Highlights of Gameplay:
NBA 2K26 steps onto the hardwood with ProPLAY-powered realism, making every dribble, crossover, and slam feel alive. From Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s cover presence to the redefined MyTEAM battles, the game immerses players in the pulse of the arena, the swagger of The City, and the grind of MyCAREER. With seven game types, including MyCareer, MyTeam, Mamba Moments, MyNBA Eras, WNBA, and 2KTV, plus extensive customization options like sliders, coach settings, and shoe creation, NBA 2K26 delivers a deep and flexible basketball experience. The soundtrack featuring Wu Tang Clan, Kendrick, Green Day, and Blur adds energy, while modes like Play Now, Blacktop, and MyNBA eras keep variety at the forefront.
NBA 2K26 – Where It Falls Short: Key Negatives:
Despite its strengths, NBA 2K26 struggles with accessibility and polish. Logging in requires typing your email twice, cutscenes cannot be skipped, and the voice acting feels flat. The MyCareer world is cluttered, slow, and lifeless, with repetitive character models and confusing icons. Movement lacks fluidity, menus are unclear, and new players face a daunting opening without proper guidance. Performance issues, dubious hit detection, and the absence of a fully featured story mode leave the experience feeling incomplete. Even veterans may find the explanations overwhelming, while newcomers risk being lost in the chaos.
NBA 2K26 – Immersive Story and Narrative Elements:
The game introduces players to characters and storylines through its opening section, where you create your player and pick a dream team. MyCareer offers in-game cutscenes, missions tracked in a journal, and an online world filled with other players. Fast-travel via subway stations and features like Shut It Down add flair, but the narrative often feels fragmented, with small set pieces rather than a cohesive story. While the broadcast-style presentation enhances immersion, the lack of a proper tutorial or structured narrative leaves players wanting more.
NBA 2K26 – Visual and Performance Aspects:
NBA 2K26 impresses with photo-realistic graphics, fantastic stadiums, and lively crowds. The broadcast-style presentation makes every shot and pass look authentic, and smoother controls improve accessibility compared to past entries. However, performance is inconsistent, with occasional hit detection issues and sluggish movement in MyCareer. Created players often suffer from lifeless eyes, and the overall world can feel flat despite the visual polish. Still, the game earns praise for its stadium atmosphere and improved gameplay feel.
NBA 2K26 – Overall Verdict: Is It Worth Playing?
NBA 2K26 delivers a true basketball experience with depth, variety, and realism. Its extensive modes, customisation, and presentation make it a standout entry, especially for fans seeking immersion in both NBA and WNBA gameplay. Yet flaws in accessibility, narrative cohesion, and performance hold it back from greatness. For those willing to push through the clutter, NBA 2K26 offers rewarding gameplay and earns its place as a strong basketball simulation.
Back of the Box Quotes:
“From the arena pulse to The City swagger, NBA 2K26 brings basketball alive.”
