Neko Secret Homecoming Review (Nintendo Switch OLED)

Neko Secret Homecoming Review, where we play a third-person 3D exploration of Neko Town with 2D puzzles in the anime factory. Hacking the anime factory’s terminals will require picture puzzles to be solved, thereby unlocking beautiful images, while other mini-games are hidden throughout the world for good casual variety, whether it’s playing darts or cracking a safe.

Neko Secret Homecoming Review Pros:

  • Nice Anime like graphics.
  • 843MB download size.
  • Fully voiced characters.
  • Plays in a 3D world with full 360-degree camera control.
  • Camera sensitivity slider.
  • Big huge world to freely explore.
  • Handy run button toggle.
  • Pickups are big and bright along with being highlighted.
  • Interactive spots are clearly marked.
  • Fun little tasks can be found.
  • Lock-picking mini-game.
  • Simple controls.
  • The song name and artist pop up when the song changes.
  • You need to find and crack four safes to get the passcode for the first mission.
  • Hack into files on a computer by playing slide puzzles.
  • Each image has 3 to unlock.
  • Nudity throughout.
  • In-game cutscenes.
  • The puzzles within each character increase the difficulty by having more pieces.
  • Play darts against an Ai opponent.
  • Unlock the ability to customize your character from clothes, body color, cloth color, hair color, headwear, size, thighs, and breast size sliders.

Neko Secret Homecoming Review Cons:

  • Cannot rebind controls.
  • The only settings are sfx and music sliders.
  • No tutorials.
  • Nudity throughout with no setting to turn it off.
  • Should have integrated vibration into the activities like lock picking and safe cracking.
  • The safe cracking is so simple and doesn’t need any real thought, I mean I did it a few times with no sound on.
  • Just a lot of safe cracking.
  • You cannot back out of a puzzle.
  • When doing the images you cannot reference the image to help.
  • Never sure when it was saved.
  • Misleading when you boot the game back up as it does the intro scene making you think it’s a fresh game but it’s not.
  • You can bathe but you are in your clothes!

Summary

I have played a few games in this series before and they have always felt like it’s part of a bigger game. To me, this is the bigger game more so because it’s all the previous games mashed into one and then an open world (albeit a small world) put on top with full 3D graphics. The customisation options are very limited but they do allow you to roughly make out a character you like. The puzzles are tile swaps and each character has three images with each one having more tiles each time including the now standard nude image for each. This is a very niche game but for what it offers gameplay wise it’s lacking I don’t think I am the game’s target audience.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
