For our New Star GP Preview, we play a fast and exciting arcade motorsport game with crisp retro visuals. Play career mode and work your way through decades of racing while upgrading your car and your support team… or chase high scores in championship mode on your own or in split-screen with up to three friends!

- Seven different driving views including a cockpit and an aerial top-down one.
- Turbo button with turbo refilling every lap.
- Driver creator – gender, skin color, hair, facial hair, hair color, accessories.
- Your car can be customized with pattern and color choices. Eventually, you can unlock new car shells.
- Choose a helmet design with plenty to choose from.
- Two modes – career, and championship.
- Championship mode is to pick a car and go.
- Career mode is where you are starting your own race team.
- The rewind system lets you go back to a previous time and continue the race.
- Fast loading times.
- Good controls.
- Familiar controller layout.
- Earn bux from races and use it to upgrade your car.
- Arcade presentation.
- In career mode, you can equip staff perks to give extra buffs to your driving like safer crashes or less tire wear.
- Achievements in the game are displayed as trophies and cups and can be viewed in the Hall of Fame section of career mode.
- Career mode has a set path of events first then you get to choose what to do.
- Variety of events from races to time trials and checkpoint races.
- The racing line to help with positioning and braking can be switched on and off with a button press.
- In career mode, you get a choice of two staff perks for every 5 cups you earn.
- The locations look fantastic.
- Controller settings – steering sensitivity slider.
- It plays a lot like an F1 Daytona USA game from the handling to the general atmosphere.
- Can rebind controls for the keyboard.
- The game supports up to four local players.
- Career mode starts in the 1980s then goes all the way through to the 2020s.
- On your Hud is an image of your car and it shows where you get damaged by changing the color of the parts.
- A mini-map shows all the cars in the race.
- Perks in career mode are attached to people and they need monitoring as they can become unhappy and this affects how good the perk is.
- Championship mode has you putting in a 3 letter name for each player.
- The commentary is text-based and only comes up at set times but its cool and very Murray Walker-influenced.
- The look of every car is distinct and despite not being fully detailed, Looks really good and is so desirable.
- The championship events are split by difficulty and/or region.
- clear easy-to-read UI.
- What I like is the perks allow you to take the customisation to the next level as they can be interchanged and mix up your playstyle.
New Star GP Preview Cons:
- Cannot rebind controls for the controller.
- The Steam achievements didn’t unlock and pop until I quit the game.
- Bare minimum graphics settings.
- The steering has a slight learning curve as the camera likes to sway as you turn.
- No colorblind option.
- The trackside crowds are very sparse.
- Doesnt offer any online racing.
- Wish we had our own editor for the cars and helmets.
- No single race events.
