Nice Day for Fishing Review Pros
- Decent modern pixel art graphics.
- 952.57MB download size.
- Steam achievements.
- Full controller support.
- Graphics settings – window mode, resolution, v-sync, and quality (fast/nice).
- Fishing RPG gameplay.
- Tutorial pop-ups and sequences as you play.
- In-game cutscenes and interactions, you can fast forward through them or skip them entirely.
- The journal will house all your quests and show rewards.
- 2D game world with a side-on view.
- Fishing is straightforward; you cast, you can move the bait up and down, and when the fish bites, you just press and hold or tap the bar to pull them up.
- Fantastic writing and characters.
- Upgrade your fishing rod line length to allow you to cast further and catch bigger and better fish.
- Earn exp and level up to increase your health, strength, and defence automatically.
- A lot of dopamine-fuelled pop-ups for quests complete, it’s very satisfying.
- The fish you catch will give you a pop-up showing the fish’s name, description, weight, sell price, exp amount, and a 1 to 5-star rating.
- A very accessible and instantly addictive gameplay loop.
- When reeling a fish in, you can’t just hold the button down to reel them all the time, as the fish moves, you have to stop reeling and then go again.
- Fish have levels attached to them and are clearly shown.
- You can sell fish for money at the shop.
- There is a central village, and you are tasked with rebuilding it after a sea monster attacked it.
- The map fills in as you explore.
- Reeling is the fishing term for fighting, as you reel you attack the fish, and they can fight back, which is weirdly enough, when you stop attacking. You can block attacks with timing, but it’s a whole mini-game in itself.
- There is occasional voice work.
- Fish will keep repopulating.
- Easter eggs and many references to pop culture.
- Buy, grow, find, or earn bait and different bait types.
- When casting, you get an arrow to show where your cast will go.
- Build a boat and use it to explore the vast open waters.
- When dropping your line, you can freely drop and raise the line, which allows you to quickly drop your line down.
- Unlock spells to help with catching fish.
- The game slowly introduces you to the mechanics and the story.
- I lost track of time and just sat in my boat with my tackle out, waiting for a bite and levelling up.
- Fish can have powerful attacks that charge as you attack them.
- Repair your rod (heal) with your spell so you can stay in the fight.
- You can change out the hook for other tools, like a magnet that can pick up chests found underwater.
- Play how you want, in that you can just sit there and level up or go through the main story missions or optional side missions.
- Customise your boat by finding, earning or crafting new items for the boat.
- Such a fun game to chill out and play.
- I love how such a simple idea is so deep. I mean, puns aside, the water is so deep that it just keeps surprising me.
- Different rods exist, and they can have buffs or stat changes attached to them.
- I like how many of the world’s problems can be fixed with fish, I mean, I can relate.
- Really clever boss fights.
- Stamina dictates what powers, spells, and healing you can do.
- Buy hats, and again, they adjust stats and may have buffs attached.
- The collection book acts like a Pokedex as it fills in with your caught fish.
- Loadout-wise wise you can equip rods, hats, rings, bait, necklaces, potions, and your boat.
- A lot is going on, what with fishing, finding chests, you have to stock up people’s pipes so they can grow bait or food, I’m basically saying there is always something to do.
- Fish needed for a mission will sparkle to let you know it’s the one you need.
Nice Day for Fishing Review Cons
- No way to remap the controls.
- There are no accessibility options like text size, Colourblind, etc.
- The tutorials are not always on time or pop in a timely manner.
- Music is to me very medieval, but either way, it’s repetitive and not my cup of tea at all.
- Even with the cast arrow, it’s not always ideal for judging casts and that causes issues at times.
- The combat part of reeling takes some getting used especially as you can time blocks to do a perfect block.
