Nowhere Preview (Steam Demo)

Nowhere Preview, Nowhere is a Nordic-inspired narrative mystery/horror game. Focusing on immersive and atmospheric creepy Scandinavian locations and a realistic investigation system, you play a detective trapped in the forests of Norway while searching for a group of missing tourists when you find there’s more to the story than meets the eye. Tension slowly builds as you explore the world, never shaking the feeling you’re better watched. Nowhere uses a unique blend of detective gameplay and survival horror in Nordic aesthetics.

Nowhere Preview Pros:

  • Beautiful graphics.
  • 4.45GB download size.
  • Graphics settings – resolution, windows mode, resolution scale, dynamic resolution, v-sync, frame rate limit, overall graphics quality, and custom.
  • First-person view.
  • Tutorial pop-ups as you play.
  • Detective horror survival gameplay.
  • Takes place in the Norwegian forests and looks awesome.
  • Camera settings – Invert axis and sensitivity slider.
  • Sets a very strong atmosphere of dread and intrigue.
  • Inspect things for a brief description and if it’s a small item you can rotate it as it’s displayed as a 3D model.
  • New area waypoint pop-ups.
  • It’s a world you just want to explore, so much to see and discover.
  • Handy get unstuck button.
  • Finding things you can interact with is made easy by a button icon prompt.
  • It’s a game that has this aura that compels you to move forward, always looking for the next clue or bit of story.
  • Your end goal is to find the four missing people.
  • You go through Viking-like settlements and find clues, you can see and inspect Viking weapons and gear.
  • The journal keeps tabs on any lore or story snippets you find, photos taken, and items and locations you have discovered.
  • For me the game grabbed me almost immediately due to the tone, the story, but most importantly the location.
  • The biggest gripes I have are all easily fixed it is with the controls more than anything.
  • I kept getting told off for going too far and that this was a demo, showing how much of the world I wanted to keep exploring.
  • No spoilers but the horror parts again are intriguing and well done.
  • A game I am looking forward to.
  • It has a bit of a player input part where you get asked questions and you have to type I your answer. This is a vague description but I don’t want to spoil when and where you do this.
  • Left me wanting more.

Nowhere Preview Cons:

  • It’s a demo so No Steam achievements, I get asked this every time so every time I will tell you it has no achievements.
  • Cannot access the settings at all so no graphics, controller rebinding, etc until you are in the game itself.
  • Cannot remap the controls.
  • Had the game crash when in the options or it would go back to the game but keep the menus up, it happened more when using the controller as I had to then use the mouse to get out of the menus and back to the game.
  • A lot of performance issues like slowdown on anything higher than medium settings on my i7 RTX card.
  • Can only change the left and right inversion, not up and down.
  • No way to have run as a toggle.
  • Could never rotate the items when using a controller.
  • You could argue that clues and items are easy to spot as they are plentiful but are also very bright so it’s hard to miss them.
  • Not all models of items are rendered clearly enough to examine them.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
