Paint The Town Red Review (Xbox Series S)



For our Paint the Town Red Review we take on this chaotic first-person melee combat game set in different locations and time periods. The voxel-based enemies can be punched, bashed, kicked, stabbed, and sliced completely dynamically using almost anything that isn’t nailed down.

Paint The Town Red Review Pros:

  • Pixel cube-style graphics.
  • 3.5GB Download size.
  • 1000 Gamerscore.
  • Graphics settings – brightness slider, mode (performance or resolution), framerate cap, and motion blur.
  • Can Invert axis and sensitivity sliders.
  • First-person brawler gameplay.
  • Three game modes – scenarios, beneath, and arena mode.
  • Six levels – biker bar, disco, prison, the pirate cove at day, the pirate cove at night, and saloon.
  • Two ways to play scenarios – challenge or standard complete with optional modifiers you select to use.
  • 16 game modifiers – top-down, superhot, random friends, lights out, no slow-mo, living dead, slow-mo run, zero-g, weak enemies, weak player, gun show, no weapons, machete time, unlimited power, hard hitter, and shocking touch.
  • The arena has two ways of playing -five sets of challenges and endless mode.
  • Pick up and use items.
  • Beneath is your main mode.
  • Beneath has several save state slots.
  • Four character types to be in Beneath mode – Brawler, warlock, specter, and vanguard. Each has unique abilities and stats.
  • Combat – you can pick up items, punch, kick and block. Special moves charge as you play.
  • Comical damage to people like black eyes, cuts, chunks of head falling off, and their skeleton showing.
  • A lot of blood.
  • Arean mode is wave-based combat with one health bar.
  • First-person view.
  • Beneath is a roguelike game variant where you earn energy to buy permanent unlocks and upgrades.
  • Levels randomize every game in Beneath.
  • Room-based challenges will pop up in Beneath.

Paint The Town Red Review Cons:

  • No tutorials.
  • Combat does feel a bit sloppy.
  • Got stuck on the scenery a lot.
  • You die very easily.
  • Beneath is Co fusing and has no guidance.
  • Arena mode is not explained and is kind of bland.
  • No field of view slider.
