Pneumata Review (PlayStation 5)

Pneumata Review, Prepare to question what is reality, and what is insanity in one of the scariest psychological horrors in years. The tenants are going missing, screams echo, and blood seeps through the walls of Clover Hill. As a detective, unravel the truth that lies within and recover your fragmented memories, or succumb to the horrors that lurk in the shadows within this sinister blend of Survival & Psychological horror. Pneumata will scare even the most seasoned horror players.

Pneumata Review Pros:

  • Decent graphics.
  • 15.58GB download size.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • Controller settings – Invert axis and sensitivity sliders.
  • 3D game World.
  • First-person horror gameplay.
  • In-game cutscenes with seamless transitions.
  • Clear button prompts for interactive parts.
  • Music is barely used but when it is it provides a powerful element to the moment.
  • Sound effects play a huge part.
  • Fantastic lighting work.
  • The game has a set directive but it does let you wander around and kind of discover things for yourself.
  • Good voice work.
  • Does give some great jump scares and WTF moments.
  • Has a lot of great set pieces.
  • It has a story that has you wanting to see what’s next.
  • The inventory is your bag with grids.
  • Set up shortcuts of items and weapons with the d-pad.
  • I love the game world and setting.
  • Hidden collectible audio logs.
  • Your book fills in with objectives and ticks off completed tasks.
  • Very atmospheric.
  • For me using headphones is recommended.

Pneumata Review Cons:

  • No field of view slider.
  • I found the movement to be a bit wishy-washy and loose, it didn’t feel great and you have no settings to tweak it.
  • It did feel at times like the game was a bit all over the place, the player’s emotions didn’t match what was happening.
  • The game does set pieces that may change your view or add filters and this isn’t always nice to experience especially coupled with the loose camera.
  • No real game settings.
  • Cannot remap the controls.
  • It makes sense but just to let you know that you cannot skip cutscenes.
  • You don’t get a lot of help with guidance.
  • Never sure when the game has been saved or you have hit a checkpoint.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
