Still Wakes the Deep: The Complete Collection Review Pros
- Gorgeous graphics.
- 11.89GB download size. That is the main game, and the DLC Sirens Rest is installed.
- Platinum trophy for the main game and an additional 22 trophies for the DLC.
- The Scottish Gaelic language is in the game.
- Accessibility options – subtitles, letterbox opacity, letterbox colour, size, dialogue subtitles speed slider, font, subtitle colour, speaker name, and edge.
- Two game difficulties – story and standard.
- Graphics settings – gamma, motion blur, film grain, chromatic aberration, and quality preset set to quality or performance.
- Silver screen mode gives the game a monochrome appearance and adds a lot to the experience.
- Controller settings – Invert axis and sensitivity sliders, you can remap the controls, set haptic feedback, and set the toggle for run, sprint, and crouch.
- Audio settings – volume, dynamic range, dialogue boost, panning rule, mono audio, audio balance, high-frequency cutoff, and low-frequency cutoff.
- Game settings – show yellow markers and action prompts.
- Excellent voice work.
- Horror adventure gameplay.
- Tutorial pop-ups as you play.
- First-person view.
- The atmosphere they create is that of intense edge anxiety.
- Distract the enemy by picking up items and throwing them.
- Stealth is a huge deal; you can hide in many places.
- There are sections where you have to run away from a rampaging enemy, and you can press a button to look behind you at any time.
- This is a game that has made the look behind button a fear factor, I never wanted to use it, because fook that.
- The rig is a location full of depth and unique actions.
- I really appreciate the way that the story just gets on with it and sprinkles in these huge set pieces and sequences.
- It was very hard to put the game down, one sitting is the ultimate experience as if playing alone in a dark room with headphones on, preferably you will have soundproof panels, otherwise the neighbours may call the polis.
- Very generous checkpoints that never have you playing a lot of already-seen content.
- You can press a button to have an objective marker appear and then press it again for a tip or hint.
- The phone plays a big part in the game as it will have survivors and colleagues giving you updates and asking for help.
- Quick-time events (QTE) are plentiful but fine as they are obvious when they happen, as it’s for grabbing platforms or stabilising yourself, and I had it set to hold the button down; again, it was generous with it.
- 23 chapters to unlock and you get a chapter select available after each completed chapter.
- A very good, strong and emotional story.
- A fantastic cast of characters.
- You can play the DLC whenever you want as it’s on the main menu as a seperate game as it were.
- Mementoes are hidden collectables in the DLC Sirens Rest.
- Sirens Rest has its own title screen, options, etc, but they are exactly the same as the game, and it saves your settings.
- The DLC follows on from the previous game and without spoiling it all, il just say you revisit the rig.
- You have a camera in the DLC and take pictures of your finds and discoveries.
- I really enjoyed the DLC, and getting to go back and see it in a whole new way was refreshing and fantastic.
Still Wakes the Deep: The Complete Collection Review Cons
- Anything to do with swimming was a nightmare.
- Looking behind wasn’t fast enough, and I found it disorienting more than anything.
- The game had a horrible habit of repeating the same handful of actions over and over, and it got very tiresome.
- At points in the game, you can see where they padded it out to make it longer, and it didn’t serve the game well.
- The DLC is really good, but you can see how they have taken a previous mechanic and just reskinned it.
- I found the DLC took a bit longer to get into the meat of it.
