Ravenlok Review (Xbox Series S)

For our Ravenlok Review, where we experience a fairytale reimagining of a kingdom troubled by a corrupted Queen and a young girl’s destiny to fulfill a dangerous prophecy. Made by the creators of the award-winning game Echo Generation, Ravenlok is the epic finale of the studio’s Voxel Trilogy.

Ravenlok Review Pros:

  • Decent graphics.
  • 4.1GB download size.
  • 1000 Gamerscore.
  • Action adventure gameplay.
  • Three game difficulties – Easy, normal, and hard.
  • Controller settings – Invert axis and sensitivity sliders, and vibration.
  • Gameplay settings – hold to attack, hold to dash, quest tracker auto-hide, skip all dialogue and cutscenes, and display potion and bombs in HUD.
  • 3 save slots.
  • Opening character naming and putting a cosmetic on your pet dog Waffles.
  • You can pet your dog.
  • A full 3D game world with incremental camera control.
  • A gorgeous-looking game world.
  • In-game cutscenes and interactions.
  • Opening tutorial-style quests and then ongoing pop-ups for new systems and mechanics.
  • Mirrors are used for fast travel.
  • Hack and slash combat with special abilities sprinkled in.
  • Breakable objects.
  • You have main and side objectives.
  • Mission management allows you to switch between missions.
  • Feathers in the game act like exp and you cash them in with a mouse to level up and increase your stats.
  • You see the enemy health bars.
  • Find hidden figurines and trade them in for unique rewards.
  • Handy dash button to get around faster.
  • Enemies and breakables will respawn when you leave and re-enter the area.
  • Has a 3D Zelda vibe to it.
  • The combat is very fast-paced.
  • Objectives automatically fill in as you do them.
  • Big boss events.

Ravenlok Review Cons:

  • The camera is done in increments and not as handy as you would like.
  • Basic combat and very mashy.
  • The skip cutscenes and text option breaks all the text as in looking at something will just auto shut down.
  • Cannot rebind controls.
  • Very slow starter as you do several fetch quests in a large area.
  • The camera angles are not great.
  • You get so many missions and objectives in such a short time that you lose track of anything and everything.
  • Picking up objective items always results in slow menu pop-ups needing a button press to close.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
