Summary

Rescue The Beagles is a visually stunning game with beautiful graphics and a manageable download size of 111 MB. The game features two excellent soundtracks by Disasterpiece and Aesqe, enhancing the immersive experience. Players can enjoy offline leaderboards and set various PvP rules, such as rescue limits, start levels, advanced levels, lives, med kits to extra life, respawn time penalties, respawn beagle penalties, and player skills. The player skills system allows for manual adjustments to actions like aerobics, owl recruiting, goji digestion, swimming, beagle magnetism, and toxin resistance, adding depth to the gameplay.

The game includes a comprehensive instruction manual that details both controls and the gameplay loop, along with the Beaglopedia, a book of enemies and creatures. With three game modes—Solo, local two-player co-op, and local two-player PvP—and two playable characters, Edwin and Nicole, the game offers a variety of ways to play. Simple yet accessible controls complement the lush 2D game world, though they require some learning to master. Players navigate a 2D plane with multiple levels, collecting (rescuing) Beagles, some of which are injured and require med kits.

The game world is filled with big drops, small drops, and cliffs, which players must navigate using parachutes and ropes. Owls can be collected and used to scare away enemies, adding a strategic element to the gameplay. The addictive gameplay loop is enhanced by the randomized game world and enemy locations, ensuring a fresh experience each time. Players must avoid lab personnel and toxic lip balm residues while navigating a rolling road that keeps them constantly moving. At the end of each level, players can upgrade one of their skills, adding a layer of progression.

Despite its many strengths, the game has some drawbacks. Players cannot edit the controls or use the stick for menu navigation. There is no playable demo or tutorial section, only text instructions, which can make the initial learning curve steep. The game lacks online co-op, PvP, or leaderboards, limiting its multiplayer appeal. The biggest challenge is learning how far a fall must be to result in death, which can be frustrating.

In summary, Rescue The Beagles is a visually appealing and engaging game with a variety of modes and deep gameplay mechanics. While it has some limitations, such as the inability to edit controls and the lack of online features, its addictive gameplay loop and immersive world make it a fun and rewarding experience.
