Rescue The Beagles Review, A challenging retro arcade platformer/runner with unique parallax-based gameplay. Rescue adorable doggies from an evil biohazard brigade in an intense, fast-paced parkour through colorful procedurally generated levels.
Rescue The Beagles Review Pros:
- Beautiful graphics.
- 111MB download size.
- Two soundtracks – Disasterpiece and Aesqe.
- Offline leaderboards.
- PvP rules can be set, such as rescue limit, start level, advanced levels, lives, med kits to extra life, respawn time penalty, respawn beagle penalty, and player skills.
- Player skills are where you can manually adjust each action in the game for your character – aerobics, owl recruiting, goji digestion, swimming, beagle magnetism, and toxin resistance.
- Instructions act like a game manual showing both controls and the gameplay loop in text form.
- The Beaglopedia is a book of enemies and creatures.
- Three game modes – Solo, local two-player co-op, and local two-player PvP.
- Two playable characters – Edwin, and Nicole.
- Lush 2D game world.
- Full name entry for the leaderboards.
- The soundtracks are excellent.
- Simple controls of accessibility require more learning when to use them.
- You play on a 2D plain but it has multiple levels and you can go up and down freely.
- The goal of the game is to collect (rescue) Beagles and some are injured and require a med kit.
- The game world has big drops, small drops, and cliffs to navigate. You use a parachute to negate fall deaths and rope to climb cliffs.
- Find rope in the game world to use.
- Owls can be collected and used to fire at enemies to get them to run away.
- A very addictive gameplay loop.
- The game world, enemy locations, etc are all randomized.
- Avoid lab personnel and toxic lip balm residues.
- The world is a rolling road so you never stay still.
- At the end of a level, you get to pick one of the player skills to upgrade.
- So much fun to play.
- Locations can have multiple levels within them that adds a lot, you can grab ledges and levels to go up.
- To finish a location you have to rescue X amount of Beagles before running out of lives.
Rescue The Beagles Review Cons:
- You cannot edit the controls.
- Cannot use the stuck for menu use.
- No playable demo or tutorial section, it’s just text.
- Took a few runs to get used to the gameplay flow and controls.
- No online co-op, PvP, or leaderboards.
- The biggest problem I had was just knowing and learning how far a fall had to be in order to kill me.
