Set in a brutally unforgiving post-apocalyptic world overrun by the undead, 7 Days to Die is an open-world game that is a unique combination of first person shooter, survival

Pros:

  • Decent graphics.
  • Zombie survival gameplay. Scavenge, Create and craft items ala Minecraft.
  • Craft weapons, Traps, Items, Clothing, Armour, Blocks and even vehicles.
  • Open world with random seeds so every game world is different.
  • 2.23GB download size.
  • Chilling soundtrack.
  • Two player splitscreen.
  • Tutorial quests (optional) help you get the basics down.
  • Deep crafting system, You can further expand these with recipes you collect and earn.
  • Can build houses, Grow crops and defences like spiked walls.
  • You can opt in to a random seed world spawn or a pre made area.
  • Game options are actually quite plentiful. You can choose modded game options to give greater control like zombie health/strength/spawn rate, How long a day is and more.
  • Has a full day/night cycle.
  • Has a food/energy mechanic along with hot/cold effects. You can also get sick and get drunk.
  • Weather system including rain and fog.
  • Full Platinum trophy.
  • The worlds are huge and have distinct areas like Desert, Industrial, Towns and even burned areas where the floor is LAVA ( not really) and enemies can set you on fire. Oh and snow I like snow.
  • Can place markers on the map.
  • Air drops randomly spawn and always carry decent gear. Be aware they can disappear off the map.
  • When continuing a game you can change settings, Perfect for fine tuning or correcting mistakes.
  • Auto saves a lot.
  • Easy to read recipes and menu options.
  • Beds act as a spawn point. Upon death you can choose to spawn at your bed or near it. Handy if your house has been over run.
  • Every 7 days the horde will appear in great numbers and come hunting for you.
  • Full online co op support.
  • Really great atmosphere of survival.
  • Addictive gameplay thanks to the looting mechanic.
  • Zombies are kind of intelligent, Re acting to noise and line of sight. They can become more aggressive as time passes and knock down walls and doors.
  • You can loot shelves, boxes, cars and even find sealed gun lockers and safes.
  • Treasure maps give vague clues to its where abouts.

Cons;

  • Pop up happens a lot.
  • Some textures can be really ugly and low quality.
  • Really dark palette of colours, A lot of browns and blacks.
  • Menus are so vast and in depth but can easily become too overwhelmingly and feel clunky.
  • Combat is unsatisfying, Very much a simple punch move punch affair.
  • Animations are not the prettiest, Noticed more in co-op as your mate just bobs up and down as he walks, Stuck animations and general gankiness is yours to see.
  • Frequent game crashes or server disconnects.
  • Can only save four worlds.
  • Stamina and hunger/heatstroke meters are brutally short. No way to tweak them or even turn it off.
  • Frame rate drops.
  • No way to skip night.
  • Text is rally small in local splitscreen.
  • Co-op you start miles apart.
  • Long initial load on boot up.
  • No co op makers to help see each other or share markers on the map.
  • Everytime you play online, You have to sort your inventory out, Put on armour etc.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
