Review: Ace Banana (PSVR)
A Shooting Gallery-style game, players must take up their bow and protect their banana stash against waves of monkeys coming to get them.
Pros:
- Cartoon graphics.
- 1.33GB download size.
- 20 Trophies.
- Archery game where you must shoot monkeys and stop them getting your banana stash.
- Different monkey types appear like hard hat wearing ones and little baby ones.
- Two move controllers are needed. One holds the bow and the other is used to pull the string.
- Big boss fights which are quite cool actually. You have to shoot the weak points as the boss moves around.
- Book shows all unlocks and stats.
- Collect and use power ups like rolling Pandas and all manner of different arrows like coins and coconuts.
- Three platforms to jump between.
- Local leader board.
- Easy pick up and play.
- 16 levels to fight through.
- Funny animations.
- Cool little mechanics like monkies throwing fruit and monkies at you to block your view.
Cons:
- Has a weird lock on feature where it will almost lock onto an enemy but at the very last second will unlock and cause you to miss.
- Game never seems to have you lining up straight No matter how many times I move the camera I was always facing to my left at an almost 45 degree angle to shoot forward.
- All monkeys are the same in that they just take different hits.
- No explanation on whats what, Jumping between platforms being a huge example.
- Tiring to play as for accurate shots you need to really stretch your arms out.
- No variety in any wave except for the boss levels.
- The aiming always feels a bit off.
- No replay ability.

Summary
Ace Banana is a game that is fun to play for the first few levels, Then tiredness sets in, You realise you are not doing anything different from the first level and it all just gets stale. The thing that bugged me the most was the whole not facing forward to face forward issue. I dont get why it just wouldn’t line up right or why shots never went where the crosshair was? Strange but anyway its a game that is great to show what PSVR is capable of but it ultimately falls short in content.
