Review: Animal Gods (Steam)

A beautifully illustrated, 2D top-down game with a focus on zen-like journeying, light puzzling, precision-platforming, and fallen gods.

Animal Gods (1)

Pros:

  • Artistic contemporary graphic style.

  • Save and quit option.
  • Steam achievements.
  • Play dungeons in any order.
  • Simplistic controls.
  • Chilled soundtrack.
  • Timed platformer sections.
  • Huge open world.

Animal Gods (2)

Cons:

  • Xbox one controller has a few issues. Always walking to the left for example.
  • Mouse pointer stays on screen when using the controller.
  • Repetitive game play, Kill enemies, get new weapon, next dungeon use that weapon to kill enemies then unlock another weapon and so forth.
  • One hit death.
  • Death resets enemies.
  • No tutorial.
  • Short game lasting but a few hours.
  • Mindless AI.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
