Review: Baba Is You (Nintendo Switch)

Pros:

  • Minimalist pixel graphics.
  • 175mb download size.
  • Puzzle gameplay.
  • Instant restart button.
  • Brief tutorial.
  • Supports single Joycon play.
  • 3 save slots.
  • World map level select.
  • The level layout on the map allows freedom of choice.
  • Proper brain teaser.
  • So much fun to play.
  • Undo button that acts like a rewind button.
  • Grid view on/off.
  • Zoom mode-none, default and stretch.
  • Input repeat delay slider.
  • The way the game plays feels so simple but in fact, has so many layers to it.
  • D-pad and analog support.
  • Addictive.
  • Gameplay-words are on the screen and you move them around to make actions like baba is you. For example, move the word wall in front of you and now it says baba is wall and guess what… Now you are a wall! Your goal is to hit the goal flag in any way.

Cons:

  • No touchscreen.
  • No hints/tips.
  • Difficult.
  • Puzzle difficulty really boils down to working out what the game will let you do and won’t let you do. You are the true enemy of the game.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
