Review: Chime Sharp (Steam)

Chime was a much-loved music puzzle game on Xbox Live Arcade, PC and PS3. What happens if you file away the rusty edges? New music + new modes + new visuals = CHIME SHARP.

Pros:

  • Clean clear graphics using a more 3D approach this time round.
  • Full controller support.
  • Steam Achievements.
  • Supports keyboard and mouse.
  • Graphic options: AA, V-Sync, Windowed and resolution.
  • 15 levels each with their own song.
  • Each level has five modes to unlock: Practice,  Standard,  Sharp,  Strike and Challenge.
  • Puzzle gameplay.  cover the area with tiles within the time limit.  think Lumines meets Tetris.
  • Earn bonus time in game by chaining and scoring high scores.
  • Multipliers allow you to rack up higher scores.
  • Solid 60fps game.
  • Fast loading times.
  • Easy to pick up and play.
  • Lots of replay ability.
  • Full online leaderboard support.
  • extras to unlock.
  • End of level breakdown showing: quads,  largest quads,  highest multiplier,  total coverage,  time played, score and high score.
  • Steam cloud save.
  • Fun and frantic game.

Cons:

  • Cannot change options in game.
  • Songs are not to everyone’s taste.
  • No real tutorial.
  • Controller input has occasional lag.
  • Certain colours clash making it hard to see what needs clearing.
  • You have to unlock the better game modes.
