Review: Demolition Inc

In Demolition Inc. you assume the role of the UFO-flying alien Mike, who’s been contracted by the society for the protection of endangered planets to turn earth into an intergalactic leisure centre. To do so Mike must remove all human traces from earth. Various tools are at his disposal: a track beam to control cars, anti-gravity ramps to maximize damage, and a huge wrecking ball which crushes everything in its way.

Pros:

  • You must cause as much mayhem as possible, in the quickest amount of time. Whats not cool about that!?
  • Tutorial does a good job of explaining exactly what is required of you and what you must do in order to beat the game.
  • The pick ups are varied and do offer some great WTF moments, from dropping oil on the road and watching cars skidd into buildings, to taking control of a car and going head first into a gas truck.
  • New cities open up through play and offer different lay outs and building types.
  • The controls are good and suit the game well. Its a very approachable and enjoyable game in this instance.
  • Online leaderboards are present and can appeal to the score chasers within your circle of friends.
  • The music is very basic, treating you mostly to normal ambient sounds of things like cars, wind, people screaming in pain as their home explodes. You know the usual stuff.
  • Getting a good run and blowing up a multiple of buildings in one go is very satisfactory and does look cool, you look down on all the chaos and smile. Sick bastard but hey that’s the name of the game. Demolition, its their fault if they chose to stay in there house. Learn to read your mail people!

Cons:

  • Graphics look very PS2 in appearance. Not a problem for everyone but it does show its age when it come to explosions.
  • The game is not particularly long, it can be hard in places but to be honest its more of a case of learning what needs to be done and learning the layout.
  • Unlocking new pick ups can feel like it takes an eternity. Once unlocked they are quite sparse so you never really feel like you unlocked anything.
  • The pick any level and play it for practice would be a good idea, unfortunately you can only play levels you have beaten. Making this mode apart from score chasing…pointless.
  • Buying items from the in game shop requires a lot of money and if you do find yourself really stuck and out of cash, can leave you having to grind levels to get what you need.
  • Price will bug a few people. On PSN its 8 pound while on Steam or Android its only a few pound. You don’t get anything different from the PSN version except trophies.

In summary, the game may not look a stunner but you can get some entertainment out of it. I would like to see the price lowered as that will definitely trigger the impulse buy market. Because for all the little niggles, you can enjoy the game and it does let you blow stuff up,  As it stands I would say get this game if it goes on sale. Hopefully we will see a sequel with a lot more content and more depth to the whole experience.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
