Review: Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor (PlayStation 4)

The Dark Heart of Skyrim beats from the depths in The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor. Explore the snow-swept region of Western Skyrim and face an ancient vampiric army that once plagued Tamriel, bent on devouring souls to fuel their rebirth, as part of a year-long gothic adventure.

Pros:

  • Gorgeous graphics.
  • Download size.
  • A new set of trophies.
  • Opens up as it does in the Skyrim game but with a bit of a remix to it all.
  • Own in-game achievements.
  • MMO gameplay.
  • New enemies and wildlife to kill you.
  • Giants and Frost giants are a huge mini-boss style instance in many cases.
  • The main storyline is one involving murder, snow, and vampires. Obviously there is more but it boils down to this.
  • Free prologue mission. (optional free purchase from the store)
  • Snow weather along with a day/night cycle.
  • It’s just great to be back in the region!
  • The last hour of the story is riveting, and the final showdown is well done.
  • Amazing vistas and locales.
  • Antiquities system-new treasure map styled hunts fill with puzzles and logic.
  • New cosmetics-pets/mementos/costumes/hats/adornments/titles/skins/dyes/new motifs and new furnishings.
  • Loads of lore books to find.
  • Can use your old character or start a new one,
  • Kynes Aegis-new 12 player group event. It plays out like a raid complete with bosses and puzzles.

Cons:

  • Still hard to read the cluttered compass for guidance on navigation.
  • The earlier quests are full of boring fetch quests.
  • Once you finish the main quest line it just stops, here’s a few rewards then off you pop.
  • Lore can be hard to find.
  • Starting and staying on the main Greymoor quest line can get tricky as it has some obscure quest descriptions and doesn’t make it clear.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
