Review: Enter the Gungeon (PlayStation 4)
Enter the Gungeon is a bullet hell dungeon crawler following a band of misfits seeking to shoot, loot, dodge roll and table-flip their way to personal absolution by reaching the legendary Gungeon’s ultimate treasure: the gun that can kill the past.
Pros:
- Pixel art graphics.
- File size: 2.9 GB.
- Opening tutorial area that can be replayed.
- Roguelike shooter with loot em up game play.
- Four characters to choose from that all bring unique attacks and abilities. The marine, Pilot, Convict and Hunter.
- Find hidden rooms and routes.
- Local co op play.
- All levels get randomized every life so no game is ever the same.
- Uncover the map as you explore.
- Teleporters are scattered all over the map and are used to fast travel around the dungeon.
- Ammonomicon-Keeps track of all found guns and items along with bosses and enemies.
- Options: Speedrun mode on/off, Beastmode on/off, Vibration, Aim assist, Screen shake, Default character.
- Quick start: Uses default character and cuts down loading times.
- Twin stick shooter controls. Easy to learn.
- Two controller layouts.
- Destructible environment to a certain degree. You can flip tables and use as make shift cover, Break boxes and crates.
- Death screen shows money collected, Time taken and Kill count.
- Full Platinum Trophy.
- Shop where you can buy items and weapons.
- Easy to play game with a huge addictive streak throughout.
- Big huge epic boss fights.
- The game turns into a bullet hell very quickly.
- Fast fluid game play.
- Weapons range from simple ones like shotguns or pistols but grow into mega crazy mental guns. In short it has so many guns you cant help by try and catch em all.
Cons:
- Long initial load time.
- Difficulty spikes.
- A lot of loading screens.
- No online co op.
- No leader boards.
- Slight learning curve.
- Feels like luck plays more luck than skill in a way. Your whole run hinges on good weapon drops.
