Review: Eternity: The Last Unicorn (PlayStation 4)

Eternity: The Last Unicorn is a fully featured action RPG inspired by tales from Norse Mythology with classic game mechanics that bring a nostalgic feeling to players.

Pros:

  • Decent graphics.
  • 8.33GB download size.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • Eternity: The Last Unicorn is an action RPG gameplay.
  • Fixed camera angles.
  • Brief opening tutorials.
  • 3 save slots.
  • Combat has dodge, light and heavy attacks. Sometimes you can trigger an instakill that rewards health back. Special aoe move that builds up as you fight.
  • Eternity: The Last Unicorn uses bonfires as a save point.
  • Journal- updates with bios of encountered enemies and characters, shows what materials drop from enemies, tutorial recap and the map.
  • Death- choose either respawn at a checkpoint or reload last save.
  • In game engine cutscenes.
  • Shards- currency.
  • Eternity: The Last Unicorn gives off a Dark souls vibes from the fear of the combat to bonfires and the feeling of the unknown.
  • Eternity: The Last Unicorn has beautiful artwork.
  • Big boss battles.
  • Play as two characters, each completely different. All new abilities and weapons.
  • Some really great looking locations.
  • Earn EXP, level up and stats increase.
  • Can upgrade weapons.
  • Collect medallions to increase health bar.
  • 12-15 hours gameplay.
  • Controller shortcut for items like health.
  • Eternity: The Last Unicorn features a large crafting table.
  • Can move whilst healing.
  • Breaking parts in level.
  • Puzzle elements throughout.
  • Loot chests scattered throughout.
  • Can go back to old locations and farm/kill enemies again.
  • Feels old school but plays like a modern game.

Cons:

  • No options outside of audio.
  • Camera angle can hide items and enemies.
  • Combat is rough at the start.
  • Eternity: The Last Unicorn has slight screen tearing.
  • Got stuck in an invisible menu a few times.
  • Few clunky animations.
  • Cannot craft on the go and you have to go to a particular place.
  • No voiced lines.
  • Abrupt music changes, noticeable when switching areas.
  • Long initial load time.
  • Fighting mobs is very tricky.
  • Got stuck and unable to move.
  • Eternity: The Last Unicorn does have a lot of backtracking.
  • Bad wording on runes, doesn’t make clear certain runes are time-based, not permanent.
