Review: Farming Simulator 15 (PS4)

Farming Simulator 15 offers an immense open world, filled with details and visual effects transporting the Farming Simulator franchise to a new era.

  • Graphics have had an overhaul, Now coming at you with a more crisp finish. Tractors have never looked so good and even the chickens look realistic!
  • 3GB download for the digital copy.
  • Full Platinum trophy.
  • Tutorial section from the main screen where its broken down into 13 seperate areas.
  • In game tutorial markers are everywhere and you can use the telephone to go over any of the many tutorials.
  • Ten save slots to use.
  • Three difficulties-Easy, Normal and hard. The difficulty affects starting capital, market prices etc.
  • Two locations to choose from. Bjornholm is situated in a Scandinavian forest while West Bridge Hills is a rural American town with waterfalls and acres of land.
  • Save when you want from the pause menu.
  • Controls are fiddly at first but soon make sense. You can have help menu on which shows the buttons as you press them.
  • Two driving views: In vehicle and behind vehicle. You can still pan the camera around in either view.
  • Free roam camera to pan around as well as zoom in and out.
  • Activities have increased since last time and include new ones like Forestry, Potato farming and selling eggs. Fear not as the more traditional ones are still present like sewing seeds, harvesting, fertilizing and much much more.
  • Notice boards are scattered around, Here you can take on many challenges/tasks from basic grass cutting ones to timed runs with deliveries. A great way to build up money.
  • Hire/fire workers on the fly. Get the AI to do the more mundane tasks as you deal with more important actions.
  • Driving is loose but greatly improved.
  • Vehicles have much more control in terms of the tools, You can turn lights on,hazard lights, Cranes have individual actions for that extra level of precision.
  • Auto drive is an option where you can lock the speed limit in, Only having to worry about turning.
  • Petrol stations, You will need to refuel as you play but is not too intrusive.
  • Aside from the vast selection of vehicles, You have accessories and additional equipment to attach like trailers, dispensers and even front weights to keep your vehicle stable.
  • People will be walking around, cars driving to keep the whole living game world vibe alive.
  • In game settings can be changed when you like and include: Timescale, Mission frequency, plant growth, help icons and invert controls.
  • Shop: Can be accessed by pressing triangle, Goods are then delivered to the store for pick up. In the store you can choose from even more machinery. Tractors, harvesters, bale loader, water tanks, trucks, cars and even animals.
  • The play area is a lot bigger.
  • Day/night cycle.
  • Hot swap between vehicles to cut down on walking all over the place.
  • Buy new land and expand your farm as you see fit.
  • You start with a loan and can pay it off in 5k increments or choose to borrow more.
  • Collectible golden coins hidden all over the game.
  • Realistic sound effects with no proper soundtrack used.
  • Reset vehicle spawn spot which is handy if you get your vehicle stuck.
  • Online co op with both randoms and friends only options.
  • In depth co op controls for online: Room name, password lock it,set room size limit, Max 6,auto accept requests, auto save on/off. Going even further you can assign separate bank accounts to players, send money to each other, Lock the ability to sell vehicles, buy land etc
  • All machinery is well known top brands in the industry.
  • You can kick/ban players from joining you.
  • Bring the map up whenever.
  • Forestry is some of the best fun you can have. You can climb trees, Cut branches off,Plus you get good money for it!

  • Map is hard to read along with the fact you have no access to a decent legend.
  • Help bar and map could be less intrusive. They take up a fair chunk of the screen and obscure the view, If they were transparent that would help a lot.
  • Starting out is a daunting task with so much to take in.
  • Loading times can be long.
  • Occasional frame drop.
  • Driving physics are a bit off with impossible mountain driving possible etc.
  • When a player joins online you get an annoying sync data loading bar that pauses the game.
  • No in game emotes/chat.
  • Chainsaw is awkward, Getting perfect cuts can be hard due to the fact the game has to bring an icon up to allow you to cut, It hardly shows up.

In Summary, Well what can I say? It to me is the best version of the game so far! The tweaks,Chainsaw, vehicles its all so much fun. Now the game wont be to everyone’s taste as it is slow and repetitive but it does have a place. It suits gamers who enjoy  Euro Truck Simulator games, People who just want a relaxed time with it all. They have included online co op and minus the annoying sync data, Its a brilliant addition. Having a group of you planning and cutting down trees may sound dull but it is actually  really good. Now with co op it keeps the replay ability and desire to keep coming back. The game is a must for simulator fans and even if farming doesn’t get you pumped, It may surprise you so give it a try.In short, This is THE simulator game to own!
