Review: Gem Crash (Nintendo Switch)

The game is played simply by rotating the map’s outer ring. Bounce the ball and destroy the gems within the time limit. If you manage to destroy the PRISM GEM, you will go into Fever Time. This will trigger an opportunity to destroy a BONUS GEM to get bonus points!

Pros:

  • Nice graphics.
  • 272MB download size.
  • Gameplay- rotate the level, smash the gems and go for a high score.
  • Gem Crash has five levels to unlock.
  • Simple one stick control.
  • Earn EXP for the ball but also the player.
  • Gem Crash is a simple game.
  • Diamonds- earned in game and you spend them on upgrading your ball or buying one time buffs.
  • Gem Crash provides a stats screen.
  • Upgrades- attack, speed, penetration, explosion increase an area attack.
  • Levels are time-based.
  • Bonus gems and multiball can be triggered.
  • A lot of fun.
  • Fever- fill the bar for a time-based bonus score event.
  • Strong feel of progression.
  • The highest score showed.
  • One time buffs are things like start with high fever bar or multiball etc.

Cons:

  • Gem Crash has no touchscreen.
  • No online leaderboards.
  • Slow to actually progress due to high upgrade points.
  • Only 5 levels to unlock.
  • Gem Crash missed a trick with no gyro control.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
