Review: InkSplosion (PlayStation 4/PlayStation Vita)

Why should war be hell when it could be fun? Enter InkSplosion, a single screen twin-stick shooter, where the only real enemy is beating your previous high-score!

Pros:

  • Pixel art graphics.
  • Download size: Vita-120MB and PS4-138.2MB.
  • Platinum trophy. Two in fact as each version is separate.
  • Shooter gameplay.
  • How to play section.
  • Gameplay- Shoot all enemies in the wave to progress. Every level you get health back and get given a random weapon.
  • Difficult.
  • Three modes- Classic, Arena, and hard mode.
  • Controls- Twin-stick shooter with L button to slow down time, the Right button is shoot.
  • The screen fills up with paint as explosions go off and enemies die.
  • Every game is different thanks to the random gun and level spawns.
  • Game stats-Playtime, the highest score in each mode and a tally of enemies deleted.
  • Addictive.
  • Pick up and play.
  • Five weapon types from missile launchers to lasers.
  • Banging soundtrack.
  • Endless levels.
  • Excellent time waster.
  • Cheap price point.

Cons:

  • Difficult.
  • No touchscreen support.
  • You have to unlock the modes with high scores in classic.
  • Lacks online leaderboards.
  • All enemies and player are the same color and it’s hard to distinguish them all from the white bullets.
  • You are left wanting more weapon types and level layouts.
  • Cannot change controls.

Summary

Solid shooter and a really cool idea. It is a lot of un and very easy to get into but with only 5 weapon types and samey modes, The game leaves you wanting a lot more variety. Having two platinum trophies though will really cheer up all the platinum hunters out there.
