Review: Just Dance 2015

Just Dance 2015, bringing hot moves and new features to 40+ current hit songs and throwback favorite tunes.

Pros:

  • On screen graphics are big, bright and really nice to look at. Seems as for the most part you are staring on someone dancing, The detail is just right, The visuals are bright enougth to hold your stare.
  • Three dance options:
    • PS4 Camera: Just set it up and off you go.
    • PlayStation Move: If you like to hold something whilst dancing this is for you.
    • Mobile Phone: New app for selected phones.
  • Over 70 songs are on the disc. Coming from acts such as Katy Perry, One Direction and even the Tetris song! There is a song for each genre in the mainstream music catalog.
  • JD Wall: This is kind of like your hub in that here you can see any news/announcements, info on your upcoming unlock in game, scores achieved and challenges received from other dancers.
  • Dancer Card:Here it will show you how many songs you have unlocked, calories burned, likes, shares of videos, scores etc. You can customize your card with an avatar and set a signature dance move.
  • At the end of the performance you can watch back your efforts and save or share you video.
  • Scoring in game is on a star system, Hit the moves in time, get good ranks and watch your bar soar to the stars!
  • Game play has you mirroring what you see on screen, A few moves will appear down the bottom right which can also grant special performance bonuses but for the most part your copying the big main dancer.
  • You can calibrate your input choice at any time and it will give tips on how to get the best performance.
  • Mojo Coins: Aside from earning stars from performances, Coins are used to buy new avatars, songs and other bits and pieces
  • U Play integration and you can unlock new songs and options for your game.
  • Online and offline play with up to 4 players. You can play as a team or against each other.
  • Special online events set around a theme. This month its a Halloween theme obviously. You perform the set playlist and get ranked, Winner must get something but I would never know!
  • Has the option for you to plug a microphone up and sing along.
  • More than a dance game with a calorie counter statistics. You can unlock new songs every 45 minutes of dancing, Actual dancing.
  • Challenge other dancers.
  • Online leader board support and you can filter it down by friends only and country.
  • Easy to use UI

Pros:

  • Customizing your dance card is bare bones, Could do with more options.
  • Buying new avatars for your card is pot luck as you cannot see what you are buying!
  • Music choice may not be for everyone.
  • No real tutorial which should be fine but it would be nice to know about the specials and timing.
  • No practice mode.
  • Challenging people takes a lot more effort than it should.

In Summary, The game is really good fun. With the camera working really well, The whole family can easily jump in and it picks everyone up fine. I had no real issues with detection or the camera not working correctly. The song choices were not my cup of tea but it does have a huge selection on there. The calorie counter felt like an after thought with just a little mention of it on a menu you never look at. I did feel like someone was always watching me and one false move and I could upload it to the YouTube. Luckily for you this didn’t happen. So in closing, The game is very well done and gets top marks for having such awesome camera support. If you bought previous versions then you know the score and are literally buying it for the updated catalog.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
