Review: Kirby Star Allies (Nintendo Switch)
Kirby is back—and he’s finally on the Nintendo Switch console in HD! But this time, he’s not alone. Recruit enemies by hitting them with hearts and gather helpers for a party of up to four characters. On top of that, you can join with up to three friends for a different kind of team-up action!

- Action platformer gameplay.
- Stars- Collect 100 for an extra life.

- Friends- You can throw hearts at an enemy to have them join your group.
- Combine/copy powers by simply pressing up on the controller. This opens up an almost endless list of possible outcomes.
- Big screen-filling boss fights.
- Big switches- Hidden within levels hitting these will open up an alternate route on the world map.
- Jigsaw pieces- Collectibles that fill in a picture for rewards.
- Dream palace- Go here to add unique players top your group or take their powers.
- Group- You can have up to 4 players total in your group, If you try and friend someone after this you can cancel or change it out with an existing character.
- Easy to play.
- Many hidden/additional rooms. You can find doors everywhere.
- Full 3D backdrops.
- Team management is easy to manage.
- Simple controls.
- Keeps the Kirby feel.
- Autosaves regularly.
- Star slam- Mini-game with a few locations. You have to charge up your shot then time your swing as you hit a meteor out of the sky. It is almost like the home run game from Smash brothers.
- Chop champs- Minigame where you race against AI or friends by chopping down pillars whilst avoiding obstacles. Easy to get into but hard to put down.
- Moves list in the pause menu that changes depending on what form you are in.
- Short levels.
- Can replay levels.
- All the elements are in here from fire to water to earth.
- You can still Kirby by sucking up enemies and pressing down on the controller to, in essence, Become that character with their abilities.
- The team moves from bridges to trains to rolling up Simpsons arcade style and crushing enemies.
- The game covers so much of the Kirby lore/content that die-hard fans will be treated.
- A lot of loading screens.
- Feels like a re-skinned Mario in some ways from the mechanics outside of the suck up mess up thing.
- Hard to tell who is who when it gets busy.
- AI can basically play the game for you.
- Not that difficult.
- Boss fights are not that scaled meaning they lose their effectiveness/difficulty.

Not the biggest Kirby fan in truth, Playing this game was fine though, Easy to get into and very happy and bouncy. I did constantly find myself saying “Oh just like in Mario” a lot, Not sure where that lies in the grand scheme of things but I know I found a lot of scenarios familiar to Mario games. But then Mario only sucked in game reviews not in the game so Kirby still has some magic. The group mechanic whilst hectic is a lot of fun and had many crazy moments, To me almost felt like a Smash Brothers story mode or a fight on a rolling fighting ground. Anyway, I am babbling, Kirby is perfectly fine and hits all the Kirby notes to keep it real, Younger players will have a ton of fun and could be a good starter, Veterans will get the fan service but may tire of its constant loop.
