Review: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 (PlayStation 4)

Join your favorite Super Heroes and Super Villains from different eras and realities as they go head-to-head with the time-traveling Kang the Conqueror in the all-new, original adventure.

Pros:

  • Crisp HD graphics.
  • 22.22GB Download size.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • Comic book aesthetic all the way through from speech bubbles to comic book style menus and end of level breakdown.
  • Autosaves and has a save and quit option.
  • Drop in and out local co-op.
  • Original story by Kurt Busiek.
  • New time manipulation mechanic to change the state of the game elements like slow down time for example.
  • Pause menu will show you your active character as a trading card showing off stats and what abilities you have. Has a cool bit where it has the origin and description of the character.
  • Familiar controls.
  • Checkpoints scattered all over the levels.
  • Cool features for characters like Starlord can put headphones on and you listen to the GOTG soundtrack whilst playing.
  • On-screen prompts for QTE, waypoints and interactive objects.
  • Battle arena- 2-4 player local multiplayer game mode. Two modes with 4 arenas. One mode has you painting the floor then cashing them in for points.
  • Huge open hub world where it combines the levels from the story and seamlessly combines them. There are collectibles and side missions to do.
  • The story is really good and takes a stab at the earlier comic book stories and adds a lot to the universe.
  • Clean clear UI.
  • Freeplay- Once you finish a level you can replay it and skip cutscenes and change to any unlocked characters.
  • Decent voice work.
  • Humour all the way through it.
  • Biggest game yet in both size and content.
  • 200 odd characters to unlock from the famous ones to the not so famous.
  • Easy to play.
  • Stud counter is back. Collect studs to fill the bar to earn a gold brick.
  • Bricks- Gold, Red, and pink blocks to collect to unlock new items and other secrets.
  • Addictive.
  • Perfect game for the younger gamer.
  • Vehicles to play with and spawn in in a cool way.
  • Tons upon tons of replayability.

Cons:

  • Unskippable boot up video.
  • The camera can be useless in tight situations but also in split-screen.
  • Mini-games fall flat and feel boring and not that fun.
  • Splitscreen is hectic with pop-ups, Screen split and noises.
  • Not the official actor voices.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
