Review: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (PS4)
As Civil War is stirred, Iron Man leads the Pro-Registration side while Captain America spearheads the stand on Anti-Registration.
Pros:
- 5.73GB download size.
- Full platinum trophy.
- Decent graphics, Defiantly benefited from the graphical upgrade more than MUA1.
- ARPG game. Plays like a Diablo lite.
- Story primarily evolves around the Civil war timeline. It is a much better story than the first. You can pick a side and the game will play out differently. So in other words you could say you have two games in one.
- Opening and ongoing tutorials.
- You create a 4 player team. You control one with 3 AI/User controlled allies.
- Fighting is more geared towards team attacks this time round, Holding down a button will dim the screen and show button prompts for the other 3 characters, Pressing them will trigger a team move.
- Online/Offline co op play.
- Slow mo,s and action scenes a plenty in this one, Feels more like a blockbuster film approach than a flat out game.
- Collect coins to upgrade stats.
- Earn EXP to level up and upgrade abilities.
- Medals: Collect them from bosses and random drops, These are game changers adding things like increased health or stronger team attacks etc. You can equip 3 at any time and change them as you see fit.
- Hidden collectibles.
- Easy way point control. Click the right stick for a handy arrow.
- Member screen where you change team members is now in the pause menu so you can do it whenever you want.
- Auto saves.
- Drop in and out co op.
- Conversation choices, You can now have some control over scenarios in a sense. You always have 3 choices and they belong to a group the groups are: Aggressive, Diplomatic and defensive.
- Improved and sleeker UI with better crisper health bars and notifications in game.
- Pop ups in game when you complete in game feats and trophies.
- 18 starting characters with 7 to unlock. New characters have replaced characters from the last game.
- Camera can still be moved here but only in certain areas and that doesn’t include zooming in/out.
- Clear mission objectives.
- Fast loading times.
- Every character is unique and each have special abilities. Some can double jump, Teleport or even fly. It keeps the game realistic.
- Perform moves with another character to do team attacks which are powerful and more efficient.
- Big massive boss battles.
- Five acts with a handful of levels within each.
- Hub: You unlock hubs where you access computer terminals and find collectibles.
- Review computer: Re watch cut scenes, View loading screen art, Look at collectibles and comic art.
- Training computer: Replay comic/bonus levels.
- Improved Trivia game: Answer questions on the Marvel universe and earn bonus EXP.
- Clear menu structure, Selecting characters is fun as they all stand in a group and you select them.
Cons:
- Shoddy camera angles.
- No mini map instead you have to pase the game.
- Very stop start game play. Typical scenario: Clear a room, cut scene, walk to next room, cut scene, clear room, cut scene. Rinse and repeat for ten hours.
- Co op can seriously mess the AI behavior up and cause people to get stuck.
- Sound cuts out randomly.
- Lacks atmosphere.
- More loading screens.
- Invisible rules.
- Story starts to get really good then just fizzles out and goes with a cliche last act.
