Review: Marvel Ultimate Alliance (PS4)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance lets players create their ultimate team from the largest Super Hero alliance ever as they engage in an epic quest to determine the fate of the Marvel Universe.
Pros:
- 6.4GB download size.
- Full platinum trophy.
- ARPG game. Plays like a Diablo lite.
- Opening and ongoing tutorials.
- You create a 4 player team. You control one with 3 AI/User controlled allies.
- Online/Offline co op play.
- Collect coins to upgrade stats.
- Earn EXP to level up and upgrade abilities.
- Shield access point: Found midway in levels, Use it to change the team and save or warp out.
- Hidden collectibles.
- Comics: Unlock the front cover of classic comic issues.
- 18 starting characters with 7 to unlock.
- Unlock bonus side missions which are themed around particular characters. They have special objectives with huge rewards.
- Right stick controls the camera, You can zoom in and out.
- Mini map: You can manually move it around, The map uncovers as you travel.
- Clear mission objectives.
- Can control your AI allies behavior with the four options. Assist, Attack, Defend and Aggressive.
- Fast loading times.
- Every character is unique and each have special abilities. Some can double jump, Teleport or even fly. It keeps the game realistic.
- Perform moves with another character to do team attacks which are powerful and more efficient.
- Big massive boss battles. M.O.D.O.K for example has a mechanic where you must answer trivia questions before you can attack him.
- Five acts with a handful of levels within each.
- Story is not a bad one and is consistent.
- Hub: You unlock hubs where you access computer terminals and find collectibles.
- Review computer: Rewatch cutscenes, View loading screen art, Look at collectibles and comic art.
- Training computer: Replay comic/bonus levels.
- Trivia game: Answer questions on the Marvel universe and earn bonus EXP.
- Clear menu structure, Selecting characters is fun as they all stand in a group and you select them.
Cons:
- No auto saves.
- Doesn’t include DLC.
- Pre load only allows you to do the first mission. Oh and it wont let you actually finish it!
- Awkward control scheme with no way to change it.
- Juddery at times.
- Still has some ugly assets that look out of place.
- Coins, Pick ups can get stuck in the scenery.
- Weird glitch where you can get stuck when changing team member or doing a special, Its random.
- Very repetitive.
- Picking up or interacting with things is really hit and miss.
- AI can be really dumb and not do as they are told or wait outside a fight.
- Annoying sound byte goes off after a fight for no reason.
- Slow paced gameplay, It takes a while to get going.
- Still last gen cut scenes.
- Cannot skip all cut scenes.
- The marvel universe is not the current ones you know and love. This is obvious but I put it in just for clarification.
- Screen tearing.
