Review: Metroid Federation Force (3DS)
The galaxy is not at peace. The war between the Galactic Federation and the Space Pirates is far from over. Enlist with the Federation Force to join a four-player local or online squad in this co-op sci-fi shooter. Fight alongside teammates in your specialized Mech to eliminate the Space Pirate menace and any threat that stands in your way.
Pros:
- Decent graphics. Quite big chunky graphics.
- Download size: 10,241 blocks.
- Can import save from Blast ball.
- Three save slots.
- Tutorial opener with rank tests.
- Two control pre sets. One that uses just the left stick and gyro, Other one is your traditional twin stick movement. You can swap at the pause screen whenever.
- Amiibo support: Scan any Amiibo in to unlock extras like skins for your mech.
- Customise: You can change your mech loadout, Skin and eve the voice via a handy slider.
- Mods: Some permanent, Some limited. You can find mods and install them at setup. They re hidden in levels.
- Messaging-Select from the huge range of preset messages.
- Voice-Male and female available, Also as mentioned the voice slider for tone.
- Training-Combat sim,Shooting range and Blast ball.
- Leaderboards will be local only at first and then populate with players met online.
- Campaign-
- Solo with a lone wolf mod that increases damage and decreases damage taken, Also adds minor shooter bot things.
- Local play- Create or join a local room.
- Online play-Play with 3 other people,You can browse rooms or create one. You can also lock it to friends only.
- Medals: Awarded when you hit a star marker in the end of level scoring.Whenever you beat your personal best on a level you unlock more stars. You can also earn seperate medals in Blast ball that unlock skins.
- Mission setup screen: Here you can choose which mods to equip. You unlock more mod slots by earning medals for a total of 3.
- You keep any mods found in a level even if you fail the mission.
- MP level scores: All players scores are lumped into the final level score.
- MP rewards: At the end of the level, A collection of rewards (mods) are up for grabs.Player who scored the most picks first then it goes down the line. Its actually a clever system.
- Online connection is very solid, Very little lag was encountered.
- Levels are actually very big and have multiple routes, Hidden rooms and a lot of verticality.
- Medals are basically your rank.
- You can and in fact are encouraged to replay levels. The score mechanic is so tight that it will take a dedicated tea to max the star score .
- MP has an option to continue playing at the end of a level.
- Bottom screen shows map and has the options for messages,Zooming in on the map or view teams mods etc.
- No friendy fire.
- Can blacklist players.
- Full 3D implementation.
Cons:
- Cannot edit/make your own messages.
- Mission fail means you have to restart the whole level.
- Only one player can collect a mod in a level.I have seen multiple picking it up but you have to be so precise with it its impossible with randoms.
- No friend request option in game.
- Sub missions are not always clear unless you are looking for them.
- No battery indicator in game.
- No easy way to see your rank.
- Horrible trend of hosts not starting games.
- Cannot choose which colour you are.
- Solo play is brutal and a frustrating experience.
- A few tired level mechanics like kicking a ball thru a level and then try and put it in a hole.
- Doesn’t look like the Blast ball unlocks carry over to the game and vice versa.
