Review: Odallus: The Dark Call (PlayStation 4)

The old gods have forgotten this land. No one could save our people when darkness started spreading and collecting human souls for its army. Odallus is a classic exploration/action game, inspired by Ghosts’n Goblins, Demon’s Crest and Castlevania.

  • Platinum trophy.
  • 3 save slots.
  • Modernized Chiptune soundtrack.
  • Two control layouts.
  • TV filter-on/off.
  • Two difficulties-normal and veteran.
  • World map level select.
  • Four skin types-Default/Royal Knight/Vampire Hunter/Red Gargoyle.
  • 2D platform RPG gameplay.
  • Shop-Buy health/weapons/respawn.
  • Big boss battles.
  • Castlevania 2 vibes.
  • Ledge grab mechanic.
  • Solid platforming.
  • Save and quit option.
  • Challenging gameplay.
  • Enemy drops health and items.

Cons:

  • No tutorial.
  • Difficult.
  • Far apart checkpoints.
  • Annoying ledge grab as it doesn’t always work.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
