Review: Party Golf (Nintendo Switch)

Tee off simultaneously to a psychedelic 2D world, with satisfyingly simple physics, except it’s a frenetic free-for-all to get in the hole. It’s instant fun with endless variety; there are trillions of gameplay combinations, from giant banana balls to turbo power-ups.

Pros:

  • Simple graphics.
  • 1.2GB Download size.
  • 8 player support players sharing joycons.
  • Full stats screen.
  • Many modifiers and customisation options that the possibilities for your own creations are nearly endless.
  • Golf game with a sniff of Scorched earth looks to it. All players tee off at the same time and its a race against the clock to sink the hole as soon as possible.
  • Can change settings in every game.
  • End of round breakdown like time.
  • Four game types- Quick game, Modes, Custom and trials.
  • Easy pick up and play feel.
  • Bottom of the screen highlights players icons so you know who is doing what and when like taking shots or moving things in the menu.
  • Clever devious level design in the base game.
  • Lightening fast loading times.
  • More fun in multiplayer.
  • Fantastic physics.
  • Endless replayability.
  • Just one more go mentality.
  • Loads of colour! From the neon ball trails to the bright colours of the aiming arrow.
  • Simple controls. Use the stick to aim and set power then press a button.
  • Good fit for the switch.
  • So much fun to play.

Cons:

  • Long initial load.
  • Really small text.
  • An overwhelming amount of modes and options.
  • No online play.
  • No leaderboards.

Summary

There is no denying it, Party Golf is a riot with friends! Simple controls, 8 player support and so much customisation even Little Big Planet would shy away in a jealous rage. Now there is such thing as too many options but luckily the game manages to keep itself grounded long enough so anyone can still get a grip[ on things. It is a decent port and a lot of fun to play. In short, the game is pure madness and I love it!

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
