Review: Trapped Dead: Lockdown (Steam)
A small American town is overrun by the living dead! You manage to enter the town just before the military locks it down and now you must slice and shoot your way through thousands of zombies in order complete your mission in this action-packed Hack & Slash RPG.
Pros:
- Dark Gritty atmosphere with some nice artwork cut scenes.
- Graphics are not amazing but it doesn’t look crap either. Kind of PS2 in a way.
- 360 pad can be used once activated within the menu.
- Online co-op for up to 4 players.
- Enemies drop items, weapons and health.
- Kill enemies to earn exp and level up.
- You can unlock new skills like stomping, better weapon efficiency and even freeze enemies.
- Upgrade your stats in terms of weapon durability and power.
- Once the pad is activated the menu can all be done off the left stick.
- You can equip armour, weapons including duel wielding single hand weapons.
- You can name your character.
- Frequent checkpoints.
- Selection of zombie types like runners, fatties and crawlers.
- Isometric shooter with a RPG system in place.
- Huge selection of weapons.
- Controls are simple enough on the pad.
- Shop to buy and repair weapons.
- Some above average voice work and for a zombie game the story isn’t too bad.
- Boss fights.
- Steam Achievements.
- Lots of blood and gore.
- Can have multiple save slots.
- Restarting at checkpoints has one good thing going for it, You do not have to kill everything again, pickups stay and any damage you did to enemies will remain.
- Healthy selection of areas complete with different weather conditions.
- Driving sections to mix it all up a bit.
- Main story missions and optional side quests.
- Auto saves.
Cons:
- No female game character to play as.
- Glitchy game play like getting stuck in walls, NPC getting in the way, falling through the floors.
- No physical save button instead you have to rely on the game doing it for you.
- Checkpoints are too far apart in some areas and has you going back over sections.
- Difficulty spikes.
- A lot of repeated missions and they love fetch quests, Like a lot and to the point where you feel like a servant more than a bad ass survivor.
- The upgrades are unbalanced and pointless. You get enough points every level up to put points into each of the areas. They never feel like they make a difference anyway.
- The menu navigation is fiddly and over complicated. Why must I hold the left stick in place to add points and then click to add points then another button to save it.
- Lot of back tracking
- Solo play is really slow with huge sections empty then a whole swarm of enemies.
In Summary, I gave this game as much time as I could, With frequent crashes and so many glitches I gave up. I cam to hate the constant need to do fetch quests, the fake feeling of loads of items. What I mean by that is health items are just that Just cos you can get hot dogs, crisps, water whatever, Its a huge list of stuff that does the same job. The atmosphere on the other hand was excellent and one of the best parts of the whole game. Cut scenes were well done but the even with that it was not enough to save the game. Its bland, repetitive nature just dragged the game down and made it a slog. I couldn’t just enjoy it, No incentive to see my way through it at all. I cannot recommend this in a ny way as the market is full of better zombie games. Yes I hear people compare it to Diablo! Diablo of all things. It is in no way like Diablo. Diablo has legendary drops, good loot and wave after wave of enemies and a huge arsenal of weapons. This has sod all enemies, glitches and yes it does have a wide variety of weapons but only a few are actually worth bothering with. Pfft I would just leave this alone.
