Review: Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide (PS4)

The once proud city of Ubersreik now lays in ruin at the hands of the loathsome Skaven. Few have survived their ruthless invasion.

Warhammer End Times - Vermintide (1)

Pros:

  • Graphics are really well done, The landscapes you play in look really really good. Character models are detailed.
  • The soundtrack is chilling as it is scary and does an amazing job at setting the scene.
  • Left 4 Dead style gameplay with a loot system familiar to Pay Day and Diablo. Its a FPS with a selection of Skaven enemies that attack you. You must do tasks in game and get out to complete the level.
  • 13.18GB Download size.
  • Full Platinum trophy.
  • Opening tutorial area that covers all aspects of the game. (Optional)
  • Runs really well on the console with very few fram drops even when the screen is full of action.
  • Four controller layouts.
  • Can invert controls.
  • Sensitivity can be adjusted.
  • Game settings=Head bob on/off, Camera shake on/off, In game help, Player outlines and toggle crouch.
  • Can set matchmaking region.
  • Two modes= Quick play (Set difficulty) where it will chuck you into any game or custom game where you set difficulty, level to play and if its public or private.
  • Forge your own weapons and armour.
  • Five characters to choose from: Witch Hunter, Waywatcher, Dwarf Ranger, Wizard and Empire soldier.
  • Hub: Here is where you select the level, group up and do any forging and inventory sorting.
  • Treasure Skaven! These guys will not attack but run away and carry a big sack. Killing them will give you a huge dump of loot.
  • Huge open levels with multiple routes, hidden rooms and short cuts.
  • Level drop layouts randomize every game including enemy spawn points and locations.
  • At level end you get a breakdown of kills, exp earned and get to roll dice for more loot. You can increase your chance at dice roll loot by collecting items in the level.
  • You can replay levels whenever you like.
  • Fast chaotic gameplay that is both satisfying and crazy.
  • Five difficulty settings that range from easy to just bat shit mental. You need to finish the earlier difficulties to unlock the higher level ones.
  • You can play single player and AI will control the other 3 party members.
  • 4 player online support and best way to play it.
  • Variety of Skaven and to be honest they are carbon copies of the ones in L4D, Smokers, hunters and ogres being the most common ones.
  • Over 12 levels to play each bring unique experiences.
  • You can equip loot to your character and indeed characters even if you are not playing as them. Each character has an ideal item that can help them like extra loot drops or better chance at weapons for that character.

Cons:

  • Can get lost easily.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
