Review: Wayward Sky (PSVR)
You are Bess, a young pilot flying with your father when you crash into a mysterious fortress that emerges out of the clouds. Your father kidnapped and plane in ruins, you set out to explore the fortress and rescue him.
Pros:
- Colourful chunky graphics.
- Point and click game play.
- 3.59GB Download size.
- Can use a DS4 or two Move controllers with move the recommended choice.
- Main idea of the game is to solve puzzles whilst fighting off enemies and exploring the world.
- Hidden collectables. You get a progress bar come up as you collect them so you know how many you have collected so far in a particular area.
- Wind chime tables are scattered throughout the world. Simply visit one and reconnect the chimes to complete it.
- Puzzle variety and frequency are spot on pace wise. Start off with standard one button deals to full on timing presses and connecting puzzles together and more.
- Get new abilities and tools as you progress through the story.
- Main menu has cool interaction spots like build a robot or throw a paper aeroplane and more to find.
- Level select option.
- Can replay levels whenever you like.
- Nice chilled soundtrack.
- The VR aspect is smooth with no real locomotion being handled here. Just point and click and watch your character move. A good game for anyone that avoids motion heavy games.
- Story is an engrossing one with cool plot twists and flashbacks.
- Very much a pick up and play game.
- Controls are easy to learn no matter which method you use.
- Makes a strong case for point and click games being well suited to VR.
Cons:
- Camera is changed by the game and can cause a few issues when looking around the area.
- No indication it is saving or you have hit a checkpoint.
- Puzzles make you overthink the most basic of puzzles. More a con for the individual player than the actual game.
- Can be quite hard to play with the DS4 especially on certain puzzles.
