Review: Windlands (PSVR)
A first person grappling hook exploration game. Soar through the ruins of a fallen world and discover the secrets of the ancients.
Pros:
- Big bright graphics.
- 1.72GB download size.
- Uses DS4 controller.
- Two controller layouts.
- Can invert controls.
- Full Platinum trophy.
- Seating mode on/off option.
- VR settings to help combat the locomotion feeling with a comfort cage. (Basically adds a cage to help) You can have a solid cage, Transparnt cage, Orb or none.
- Comfort turning on/off. This has it turn in increments or goes for the smooth.
- Three save slots.
- Opening tutorial.
- Game play is a open adventure game where armed with your hooks, Explore the land and uncover the story of what happened. It leaves it all up to you how you and where you go.
- Three difficulties= Easy (little parkour and you can hook anything), Normal (little parkour and hook bushes only), Hard(Parkour sections and hook bushes only)
- Options will always show on boot up of a game every time.
- Main hub area where you can choose to replay sections of the games.
- Find and collect crystals to open up new areas and learn more about the story.
- Hidden tablets to find and uncover some back story.
- Full stats screen.
- Fast loading times.
- Checkpoints are everywhere and represented in game by blue portal looking gates.
- Clever level design no matter what difficulty you play on.
- Very enjoyable laid back experience.
Cons:
- Controls no matter how you set them up, They always feel a bit off and dont quite work how you would expect.
- Can easily get lost and lose track of where you are headed.
- The cage does a lot to negate the locomotion feeling but there is so much movement and bouncing in the game it is still a issue to some.
- No auto save notification.
